I love it when Andy from Fyxomatosis decides to do a Merckx Mondays collaboration with me. Andy’s known for his great photos, which are superb but what I’m more impressed with is his ability to acquire such rare steeds. Case in point: Patrick Sercu’s MX-Leader clad in the colors of the Belgium flag.

Check out where Andy rode this bike below!

Man, it’s been a while right? Good thing Gage + DeSoto came through with this week’s Merckx Mondays content. This Eddy Merckx and Mars Blackmon mash up was the star of Interbike last week. Well, maybe not the star of the show but it was on everyone’s lips and back. I think they sum it up best, “We like to think of it as Belgium by way of Bed-Stuy.”

Classic! Scoop one up here!

You’ve probably seen this photo of Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil before but the significance is often overlooked. Anquetil was the first cyclist to win the Tour five times and Merckx would soon follow in his footsteps.

Well, the Tour is over and the Aussie Cadel Evans took home the jersey. It was a great year for the Tour and every stage had its ups and downs. Eddy, as per the usual, made a few cameos this year. When you look at him now, it’s easy to forget that in 1969, Merckx dominated the Tour de France where he won seven stages and grabbed the Yellow, Points, Mountains and Young Rider jerseys!

How about a little Reader’s Rides / Merckx Mondays mashup today? Arthur Arcinas send me in photos of his Eddy Merckx Panasonic Corsa Extra a few weeks back and I’m finally getting around to posting them up. The Panasonic team paint job is one of the best to ever leave the Merckx factory. In my opinion, it’s third, next to the Telekom and Stuttgart paint schemes. Arthur built his up with a Chorus and Record mix, complete with Ventos and a Rolls saddle.

Edit: So it’s not a Panasonic but it’s still a clean build!

It occurred to me the other day that I never really had a proper photoshoot with my Eddy Merckx team Stuttgart track bike. Sure, Sasha did a great job with the initial photos but so much has changed since then. This bike has taken me all over NYC and Austin in style and it’s my favorite bike I’ve ever owned. While the build isn’t exactly period correct, it’s got style and the fit is perfect. The bar tape is worn, there are numerous chips in the paint but it still rides like lightning.

So check out more details from my Eddy Merckx track bike and other bikes from around the globe below!

There was once a noble man named Eddy Merckx. This Belgian cyclist won pretty much every race he entered (ok that’s a stretch) and broke the hour record in Mexico. For years to come, he developed tubing with Columbus and sponsored some of the top teams in the 1980’s and 90’s racing circuits.

So what happened to Merckx in 2011? He fucked up. Real bad. Check out more of this depressing Merckx Mondays below!

Yes, Shifter Bikes is the mecca of Merckx MAX’dom. You can’t find any other shop around with such a plethora of ‘perty road bikes. A while back, I featured an article in Ride on Phil Anderson’s Motorola Eddy Merckx MAX team bike. Andy and Dan built the bike as close to specs from the era and now it’s hanging up in Shifter Bikes for all to see and drool over. Not that it needed any more documentation, but I decided to take a few photos of it anyway!

Like a skeleton hanging in a museum, this Merckx is a thing of beauty! Check out more Merckx Mondays below!

Sometimes when I’m on the road, I slack on my weekly posts. Merckx Mondays, Reader’s Rides and Tuesday Teardowns all suffer equally. Luckily, I’ve got readers who constantly send me their bikes and others who do recon work for me on the side. How else could Tracko afford to open a bike shop?

First up is Tracko’s photo of the Eddy Merckx plate that’s made its way into each of the Rapha Cycle Clubs. Tracko shot this in the SF shop, which has spectacular lighting compared to the NYC shop. Here’s a photo I took last year of the same plate.

It’s never too late in the day for a Merckx Mondays post. If you can’t tell, I’ve been having some issues with the site today so maybe this will make it to the front page before midnight CST. At any rate, I have featured a number of 7-Eleven team Eddy Merckx bicycles over the years on the blog (including mine) and when I was in SF, I ran into two 7-Elevens.

I think it’s freaking amazing that when I roll into town, the Merckx bikes come around. Last week while I was in Boston, I swung through the Arc En Ciel studio in Somerville. When I walked up to say hi to Josh, I looked and damn, there was a tree full of Eddy Merckx bicycles ranging from a steel pista, two road bikes and an aluminum pista.
