The Radavist’s Top Ten Bike Reviews of 2022

Every year, we get offers from companies, both large and small to review one of their upcoming bike models. We take on what we can and lean on our contributors for the ones we can’t fit into our own schedules. We’re still just three people running this site over here! At the end of the calender year, we dig through our analytics, social media channels, and comments to determine which bikes did the best and compile a list. This year’s ran the gamut from full suspension mountain bikes to, cargo, all-rounder and gravel racing machines. There’s something for everyone in this one, so read on for The Radavist’s Top Ten Bike Reviews of 2022!

Beautiful Builds: Necronomicog Battles the Moots Womble – Titanium is Immortal

Deep in the mountains of Norway, Titania Assault from the black metal band Necronomicog perfected the art of forging titanium under the watchful eyes of the Monks of True Metal. For decades he learned to craft the world’s finest titanium, eventually earning the title of “Master of Metal.”

As the ancient scriptures prophesied, an adversary would rise in the Rocky Mountains of the United States who would usurp this title, forcing Titania Assault to meet his mantle in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. That day came when the Steamboat Springs-based framebuilders, Moots, dubbed themselves the “Masters of Metal” and released the Womble 29er hardtail to the world. Balance needed to be restored, and the stage was set…

Watch as Titania Assault goes head to head with the Moots Womble in a battle for the title of “Master of Metal.”

Mid South 2022: Silver Delight – The Moots Routt ESC Neo Retro Build

We already looked at Moots’ new adventure platform, the Routt ESC a while back, in a photo review and as a Beautiful Builds video, but having never seen the Neo-Retro build spec in person, I had to take the build Moots brought to Mid South outside of District Bicycles for some photos. This build kit looks amazing, with mostly silver parts, a bead-blasted ti Moots stem/seatpost, and yeah, that’s a barcon shifter. Let’s check it out below.

Review: Moots Routt ESC

The Baxter was a blip in a long line of adventure bikes to grace Moots’ 40 years of building frames in the Rockies. Personally, I really liked the Baxter. It held its own in the Steamboat Ramble Ride and tackled our “Disconnected” project in the Inyo Mountains with SRAM but the Baxter had some quirks that needed to be addressed. With the Routt ESC, Moots did just that, abandoning the Baxter model altogether.

In an era where adventure, gravel, touring, and bikepacking bikes are seeing lots of permutation, there’s no time for nostalgia. Brands need to address their bike’s quirks and redesign as needed. That’s where the Routt ESC comes in. It’s like the Baxter and the Routt gravel line had a lovechild, which resulted in a completely new paradigm within the Moots catalog. Let’s check out this new Routt ESC bike in more detail below!

Moots Now Offers a Trans Am Anodizing Finish On All Of Its Bikes

Coinciding with today’s Chris King Open House, Moots just announced another custom anodizing package for its entire catalog. Trans Am is inspired by 1980s car graphics and this theme is carried across the frame, onto the stem, and seatpost. With a retro-themed, vibrant color palette anodized onto a matte surface to give it pop and vibrancy, the Trans Am is by far the flashiest anodizing finish Moots has offered to date… See more photos of the Trans Am finish at Moots and be sure to check out our Related Archives below for a deeper dive into the Steamboat Springs brand!
