Readers’ Rides: Lewis’ Diamondback Sorrento Klunker

These days, we’re getting so many re-purposed 80s and 90s rigid 26″ MTBs, built up in the spirit of klunkers, complete with moto bars and all! We’re all stoked to highlight such cool builds for our Readers’ Rides, so let’s check out Lewis from New Zealand’s Diamondback Sorrento below…

Hey guys,

Figured I’d fire this project of mine through, I love it, and I thought there would be a few other weirdos out there that might enjoy it too.

She’s a mid-90s (?) DiamondBack Sorrento that I saved from my local dump (big ups Wellington Tip Shop). It’s definitely nothing special, but it oozes character.

What started as a small project to replace my recently sold gravel bike quickly spiraled out of control. With new Box brakes and drivetrain, Shimano cranks, a wheelset I built up with some old Mavic m231 rims and Shimano hubs, some Gravel Kings, and of course the super heavy and super wide Fly vintage motocross bars paired up to an old Odyssey Tom Dugan stem.

Next weekend is the first full weekend of daylight savings here in New Zealand, it’s tradition for my mates and me to pack up and go on a weekend mission to kick off the season of camping and riding. I can’t wait to load this thing up with bags and cruise in absolute comfort, hopefully hitting the occasional booter and laying down a few lengthy skids along the way.

Cheers,

Lewis

Feel free to submit your bike, listing details, components, and other information. You can also include a portrait of yourself with your bike and your Instagram account! Please, shoot landscape-orientation photos, not portrait. Thanks!
