Leo Rodgers Meets Julian Molina and Fundraiser for Leo’s Recovery

It doesn’t take long to understand why Leo Rodgers is such an inspirational figure in the cycling world, and beyond. After losing his leg to a motorcycle accident nearly a decade ago, Leo found bicycles as a positive outlet and has been spreading good vibes in communities across the world ever since. He’s always cracking jokes and makes riding bikes look the most fun you’ll ever have. Leo was excited about the upcoming release of his most recent collaboration project with BMXer Julian Molina when, the week before Christmas, he was involved in another accident that resulted in a broken neck and paralysis. Continue reading below for a recap of Leo and Julian’s project by James Luedde, video by Stew Johnson, and Jeff Zielinski‘s excellent photoset. There’s also a link to a fundraiser, which will help support Leo and his family during these difficult and uncertain times.

Ben Frederick’s “Love your Brain” Fundraiser and Jersey Pre-Order

Earlier this fall we featured Fergus Tanaka’s touching story about Ben Frederick‘s fundraiser with Love your Brain, a non-profit organization that advocates for traumatic brain injury relief and recovery. Ben is also raffling off one of his custom Ritchey Swiss Cross frames. We’re bumping this today in hopes of elevating Ben’s raffle and getting more eyes on this project. The raffle runs through the end of this year and tickets for the frame and other prizes can be purchased from Ben’s website. Check out some more photos below!

Lachlan Morton is Auctioning Off His Alt-Tour Jersey

Lachlan Morton announced on his Instagram Wednesday morning that he’ll be auctioning off the jersey he wore for the entirety of this summer’s Alt-Tour, his solo transit of the Tour de France route, which he rode ahead of the peloton and completed the entire TdF route.

Lachlan plans to donate the proceeds from the auction to Pedaling Minds, a Louisville, CO-based organization that works in schools to teach students collaborative thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and coordination through a program designed to build self-confidence, using bikes as tools for learning.

This is a unique piece of memorabilia of a kind not often available. If you think your readers would be interested, I’d be grateful if you’d share this opportunity with them. The auction will end at 5:45 am MST on Wednesday, Dec. 15, and no, he won’t be auctioning off his bibs as well!

Bid at eBay.

Bonny Doon Strong Merch Background: Building Community, Supporting Recovery

The CZU Complex Fire has done irreparable damage to many’s homes and decimated the small community of Bonny Doon. So far 82,000+ acres have burnt, 799 structures have been destroyed, and the fire is only at 26% containment.

Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz member Emma Ussat created a merch fundraiser directly supporting Community Foundation’s Bonny Doon Fund. The Community Foundation Santa Cruz County (CFSCC) is a trusted nonprofit that actually formed in 1982 to meet the needs of such disasters as this (at the time a major flood had just hit Santa Cruz).  MBOSC have worked in partnership with CFSCC on other campaigns and they are a great partner. The Bonny Doon Fund will go directly to those in need. @cfsantacruzco

For now, you can help out by buying one of these two shirt designs.

Oddity Silent Auction for Cancer

Oddity Silent Auction for Cancer

I can’t come close to Sean’s words here, so apologies for the copy + paste. He’s running a silent auction on his 2019 NAHBS bike to raise money for his friend Phoenix:

“Heart-to-heart coming at ya. I have a friend who needs some help. His name is Phoenix. He is seven years old. He has cancer. And though I will continue to do what I can to help Phoenix, his Mom, Dad and three siblings; it will never feel like enough. Ever. So I will start this late Tuesday evening by offering my personal Mtn Cruiser, number 1/10, to anyone willing to do the right thing. One of you can take this machine home, built originally for the North American Hand-built Bicycle Show. Because I would rather have Phoenix than a million bicycles. And I am otherwise unable to help him financially. I will post images of this bike through next week, with info on its build and geometry. With a story on the why and how and what’s. And if you want to help an amazing seven year old with the fight of his life, and take this one-of-a-kind bicycle home as a bonus, please, message me with questions and/or your bid – as I’m selling the OG Mtn Coaster ‘Silent Auction’ style. Highest bidder gets the bike, some good karma and a big thank you from me. Every penny you bid goes to Phoenix. We all do hard things, and endure hardship. But at seven? This is so heavy. And feels so unfair. If you feel the urge to help otherwise, please click the go fund me link in our profile. Thank you for reading. Stay human.”

“I’m accepting silent auctions style bids. Send your bid to me via email OR DM here on IG (I DO NOT check Facebook!). Every dollar goes straight to Pheonix’s Cancer Fund (see my previous post on 9/25)- If you win, you will simply send funds direct to his Go Fund Me page (link in bio). I will cover shipping costs and the bike will be sent directly to you, the winning bidder.”

You can email Sean or DM Oddity Cycles to place a bid. All funds will be sent to Phoenix’s Go Fund Me.
