Ruckus on the Oregon Outback

With the success of the Bikes and Faces of the Oregon Outback post, I figured diving a little deeper into one bike couldn’t hurt. As I said before, a lot of people were on hardtail or rigid MTBs. While the top two finishers (Ira and Jan) were on drop-bar touring / road bikes, a majority of the field chose the stability and control of a full-on 29r, 27.5 and even 26″.

Shawn from Ruckus took the Oregon Outback as an opportunity to create a bike, specifically for this bikepacking outing and the resulting design is pretty bad ass, not to mention, featherlite!

Winter Bicycles: Sean-nós Frameset

Eric from Winter is slayyyyyyying it this year! Here’s the latest, the Sean-nós frameset, a sportif road:

“The Sean-nós is designed to run modest width tyres and mudguards under a mid reach brake. The heat treated, thin wall steel tubing is joined with clean, crisply carved continental style lugs. The quickly raked fork and open scalloped drop out treatment are reminiscent of an older style. The Sean-nos is equally at home in the mountains, rain and rougher roads The racing green metallic paint and gold box lining are provided by Keith Anderson.

54 seat tube and 55 top tube with an optional 120mm Winter French point stem.

This frame is currently available – holler at Winter and see more photos at the Winter Flickr.

In Stock Now: The Specialized AWOL Transcontinental Edition

Since the first documentation of this project was posted on this site, I’ve been very interested in seeing the AWOL Transcontinental Edition touring bike hit local dealers. It is one of the most unique tourers I’ve ever ridden. My Product Review of the bike was thorough and Erik’s suped up Peacock Nuke edition swept everyone up in awe. Head over to Specialized for specs and contact your local shop for ordering.

Chumba Cycling’s Made in the USA 29+ Midfat MTB Frames

The name Chumba has been around for some time in the mountain bike world. Back in the early 90’s, Chumba first began making frames in California. The company has since gotten a bit of a facelift and a new home base just outside of Austin, TX. With its California and Colorado heritage, the team at Chumba has started designing frames in Austin and fabricating them in Oregon.

At the 2014 Mellow Johnny’s Classic yesterday, I got to check out one of Chumba’s first prototype MTBs, in the 29+ platform. Along with Orange Seal, Chumba will be offering their bikes tubeless-ready, which means lighter wheels and overall build weight. Utilizing True Temper, Whisky Parts and Paragon hardware (not pictured), these bikes come in pounds lighter than other 29+ offerings on the market.

The final production run will use Ceracote, rather than powder, have new graphics, a stainless head badge and an oversized OX Plat downtube. Completes will be built with Race Face cranks and Thomson parts. MSRP on the frame will be around $1,200 – but that’s not finalized yet.

Being that Chumba is located outside Austin, I’ll be following up on their projects as events warrant. For now, their team is racing and riding these bikes on our local trails and putting in PR&D as needed.

All-City Introduces New Cyclocross Bikes Including the Macho King Disc

All-City as a brand has grown so much over the years, largely due to the killer team working their asses off designing their bikes from the ground up.

For Frostbike this year, they unveiled three new disc cross models: the highly anticipated Reynolds 853 Macho King Disc, a Macho King Disc Limited Edition and a Nature Boy Disc. While the whole line is impressive, my favorite detail is the singlespeed dropout on the Nature Boy Disc…

Earlier this summer, I posted photos of an early prototype of the Macho King Disc and people were stoked. The bikes All-City unveiled tonight are dialed. See more details and photos below.
