SF #RideNStyle Weekend Randomness 04

Today was my last full day in SF and I woke up to find my bike missing from the Messenger Mansion. I checked my phone to find a randsom from #FixieNinja, leading me to Bernal Heights. Crihs had been planning this “revenge” since I desecrated his bike last year, around this time. I got my bike, put the wheels back on and headed out for the day. After the Mash 1-Year Anniversary race (event coverage coming), we rolled to the park to soak in the sun. Nothing crazy, just a bit of people watching…

It’s the last day before the #RideNStyle competition here in SF. I rolled out the the #fixiefamous crowd from the Mission, out to the Embarcadero to see the course and bumped into all the fixed freestyle guys. The following set is all over the place but there are some gems in there!

Read this post in a groggy, hungover tone. Yesterday, I kicked around town before the Red Bull event started. TCB Courier now delivers wine, so I witnessed their Dominican delivering to some yuppies and then the rest of the day just flew by, leading into the RideNStyle kickoff. Check out more below.

Yes, it’s that time again. Randomness from the streets of SF in preparation for the 2012 Red Bull RideNStyle. Today I met up with Crihs, Marc, Em and Chas over in the Mission and rolled over to Mash to see Mike and Walton. It was unbelievably warm out and for the first time, I finally had a track bike in San Francisco. It’s been fun so far and here’s a photo dump to hold you over for a bit!

SF Randomness

I love SF but man, my allergies have been killing me since I’ve been here. My day began at the Rapha Cycle Club to see how some familiar faces but since I didn’t have a bike, I had to borrow a cruiser from Mission Workshop. While everyone told me to do “the wiggle” to the Marina, I just went up and over the range. Climbing on a triple with a long-reach is a piece of cake, especially with promenade bars. Doing so provided with some great vistas of the Bay and the cityscape. From there, I headed over back to the Mission for the Levi’s Commuter Party where I met the legendary Erik Zo of Zo Bags and kicked it with some old friends. It’s been a blast SF. Thanks for everything! See you at RideNStyle. Happy Friday everyone.

Wait, what? Yeah. I got back to Austin for a full day and then headed right back out. This time, I landed on the west coast in SF. After a much needed sleep on the flight over, I headed to the Mission Workshop space to recollect my bearings and have some Bicycle Coffee. From there, I headed to a super secret meeting (more later…) and then headed to Taylor Stitch and Benny Gold. A man’s gotta look nice right? Mash SF provided the late-afternoon entertainment and much-needed SF bike porn. These are all staple shops in SF to visit!

I’m rambling, so just check out this massive photoset below.

Brooklyn Randomness

Brooklyn Randomness

I woke up Sunday absolutely wrecked. One of the hardest things about coming to events like the RHC are all the hours spend partying until 4am. After I pulled myself together, I met up with Chas and we rolled to get some food, then over to Outlier. Chas has decided to give up food delivery for modeling and since he’s #fixiefamous, I think it’ll work out great. From there, we headed to Affinity where we were greeted by the DOSNOVENTA bicycle team from Barcelona. Sure enough Clary hopped on their carbon and aluminum bikes and put on a show. It’s crazy how fast a day can go by when you spend it fucking around in the street on expensive track bikes… Don’t forget to check out the “previously” links below if you haven’t already.

Friday Afternoon NYC Randomness

Friday Afternoon NYC Randomness

Yesterday was a blast. As I was getting my coffee in the morning, a young man came flying up the sidewalk yelling “Checkpoint!”. Immediately, I thought there was a race. Turns out, he was lost, so I followed him all over the city looking for the an alleycat. We stopped everywhere looking for fliers or information. Chari, Continuum, all the shops downtown. While we were in the city, I headed up to meet Daniel from Search and State and then we blasted 7th avenue with a group of guys from LA and SF before heading back to Brooklyn.

Riding a track bike in NYC is a buzz like none other and these photos came out sick.

Brooklyn Randomness

Yesterday was the most fun I’ve had just cruising around in a long time. I love Brooklyn and the hardest thing about moving to Austin in 2011 was leaving all my friends behind. Now, I come back to the boroughs and am greeted with Beautiful Bicycles and a steady stream of inspiration. I can’t describe the sensation I get from visiting NYC on a bike.

After a night of drinking, I rolled out of bed and got some coffee at Blue Bottle. All I need is an Americano to get the day rolling. From there, I stopped into the Mishka NYC offices and shot the shit for a bit, before heading over to Outlier and I ended the day at King Kog yet again. There are many posts that will spin-off of these photos but I just wanted to show you what it’s like to pedal around this community on a glorious spring day.

SxSW Randomness 03

SxSW Randomness 03

Today was awesome. We started off with a detox ride to some hills and immediately got sucked into the madness that is SxSW. I randomly bumped into Matty B, who was working at the Handsome roasters pop up shop. After some much-needed caffeine, I headed over to Yellow Jacket, where Elle Camino Vintage Clothes had her pop up shop going and from there, it just got kinda fuzzy. I do know that I saw Lamour Supreme at Secret Walls at some point but again, the rest of the night was a blur. Check it out for yourself here.

We’re what? Not even a few days in SxSW here in Austin and I’m already over it. The saving grace is avoiding the crowds, hanging with friends, both new and old, and maybe hearing some music. A group of us saw High on Fire (who’s stoked for De Vermis Mysteriis?) last night and today, I caught a few songs from the Portland-based band, White Orange. Then, it all became a blur of open apertures and congested streets.

SxSW Randomness 01

The best way to deal with SxSW is out on your road bike in the hills (hopefully you brought your bike). Or, if you prefer, a quick roll through the city often delivers some prime people watching. After I cleaned up from my morning ride, I headed into downtown to an old friend and along the way, I caught a few photos. Nothing serious, just an idea of what it’s like here during SxSW. 2011 SxSW Recon: Randomness

While my intention here is in no way as ambitious as my 2011 NAHBS coverage, I will be updating the site with some random shots from this year’s SxSW. Most of it will include Locked Up posts and various other cycling-related posts as well as band coverage. Today I was out and about for a few hours and managed to catch some of the madness (and people riding in it). Oh and good news, Fast Folks appears to be ok. People were inspecting the building when I was there.

Check out a slideshow below.

Recent Roll: Randomness in NYC

I try to shoot as many photos as I can afford to with my Canon AE-1, especially while traveling. I say “afford to” because it gets expensive! While here in NYC for the weekend, I took a few photos with my 35mm while documenting events, shops and people. Some of the content is redundant but I tend to like the film over the digital shots.
