Busyman Bicycles for Richard Sachs: Bar Tape Now Available

I was there when Mick from Busyman Bicycles first got his red leather and RS-embossing plates and now, weeks later, it’s for sale on the Richard Sachs site. I can’t imagine how many man hours went into this stuff! While the $80 price tag may seem steep, this is hand made and let me emphasize that: hand made by one talented individual! Grab a pair of brown, white or red right here. They even come with RS bar ends!

God is in the detail.

Mick Peel’s work has been showcased here on the blog many times and it wasn’t until I met Mick and saw his operations at Busyman Bicycles that I realized how much work goes into each of his commissioned works. If you’re wondering why I’m referring to Mick’s work as an art piece, it’s because it is. His hand-embroidered and perforated bar tape is only matched in beauty by his hand-embossed leather saddles. Mick’s work is stunning and watching him work in his home studio was a wonderful way to spend a sunny Melbourne morning.

This is actually really sick:

“Just finished this custom order bar tape for Richard in London. Destined as the finishing detail on his soon to be completed Baum. Custom Aussie frame, custom Aussie bar tape. Black full grain leather tape split through the centre and then double stitched with purple thread and backing.”

Busyman Cycles, there to add the small details to your custom builds. Solid.

The first weekend of June saw another lap around the sun for the Handmade Bicycle Show Australia and while there was no blowing out of the candles, the show turned five this year. This edition was once again hosted in the incredible Seaworks building in Williamstown. Overlooking the city skyline, Melbourne looks close enough that you could touch it. Massive shipping vessels bring goods into the port, making a spectacular backdrop for a celebration of the craft and culture of the Handmade Bicycle. Andy White of FYXO share a gallery of beautiful bicycles and backstory about the builders at this beloved event.

Today we’re continuing our coverage of the Handmade Bicycle Show Australia, with six builders, many of which might be completely new names to you, as they were to me. Photographer and owner of FYXO, Andy White was at the show, documenting each of the maker’s bikes, under the spotlight, and on the stage at the event. We’ll have a few big galleries up over the next few days from each of the builders present at the show. Let’s continue the coverage with…

The Handmade Bicycle Show Australia is Coming!

There are many, talented framebuilders in Australia and the Handmade Bicycle Show Australia looks to expose their best work to the masses. The show returns this year, on April 27th-29th, showcasing the builders and products born in Australia. As an example, FYXO recently showcased this Prova Cycles Molti all-road bike, which in itself, has many details, but I can’t get over how good King Cages look in black and that Busyman saddle treatment! See the full gallery at FYXO and more details on the show at HBSA.
