Firefly Bicycles: Ti Seat Posts Now Available

Each of these posts are cut, mitered and anodized by hand in Boston, Massachusetts by the guys behind Firefly. I might have jumped the gun this weekend but Firefly now has these seat posts for sale at their web shop. They’re $300 each or $250 if you buy a bike. Considering that the Moots posts are about $305, I’d say that pricepoint is fair!

Keep in mind, these are titanium, not aluminum and they include an ENVE wedge. Check out that anodizing fade! So sick. Better act quick, these won’t last!

Now I know the last Firefly Ti commuter got ripped apart on Bike Snob but after seeing this bike being built up at Firefly during my Shop Visit, I can’t help but post at least one photo of it (even if I linked to it in that entry). Tyler and Jamie dialed this baby in and while the idea of a Ti commuter might be absurd to some people, there’s nothing wrong with rollin’ in style. Check out more at Firefly!

Before the fender comment springs up, this bike is now in Austin, Texas, where it never rains!

Shop Visit: Firefly Bicycles

Somerville, Massachusetts has a rich history with titanium bicycles. Merlin, Seven, Indy Fab all dabbled in the material and now Firefly Bicycles continues this fine tradition just 15 miles from where it began in the Boston area. Jamie and Tyler both left Indy Fab with ambitions of creating something of their own and in just 6 months, they did just that. With a packed queue and plenty of work to take care of, I was honored that they’d make time to show me around.

Firefly Bicycles: Titanium Commuter with Di2

Firefly keeps on putting out the nicest photos of some killer projects. Now I’m just guessing here, based on other entries on their Tumblr, that this is a single speed MTB. Check out the bars and other teasers on their Tumblr and I cannot wait to see the full shots.

Edit: Tyler just linked me to the full gallery of this insane bike. It’s a Ti commuter with Di2 but to keep the minimal aesthetic, they machined the shifting for the derailleurs into the bars, via these tiny brass buttons. Holy shit! That is wild! Check out more details here. You guys are really killing it! Shop Visit next week. Promise!

By the way, I saw Graeme’s Ti road bike in Melbourne, looked fantastic!

Firefly Bicycles: Titanium Track Bike

I was so beat from my last trip to Boston and Pittsburgh that I didn’t have the energy to visit the guys at Firefly. I did however promise to make it up there in June though. Until I get to do a Shop Visit with them, you really ought to be following their Tumblr. This track bike looks sick!

Three cheers to 100% original content on a Tumblr. Good looks guys!

Introducing Firefly Bicycles

Tyler Evans from the “old” IF shot me this press release announcing the birth of Firefly Bicycles and all I can say is that I’m stoked for him and Jamie for building their dream company out of the shift in ownership of IF. Check out the press release:

“Tyler Evans and Jamie Medeiros Declare Independence, Launch New Handmade Bike Company.

Boston,MA– February 16, 2011 — Firefly Bicycles is now crafting custom bicycle frames out of their 2000 square-foot shop in Boston, Massachusetts. The company’s founders, Tyler Evans and Jamie Medeiros, have designed, built and fit high-end Ti, steel, stainless steel and carbon frames for a combined 30-plus years at some of the world’s most revered names in handmade frames.

“We’re taking everything that was great about where we came from, where we’ve been, our history together, our deep roots in the international cycling community, our collective skills, and we’re using that as a starting point,” indicated Jamie Medeiros, Firefly Bicycles’ Director of R&D. “The fundamentals of making great bike frames haven’t changed dramatically, but there is so much room for improvement in attention to detail, dialing in ride quality, finish quality, customer service and making bikes that are truly unique to each rider.”
