Rivendell does a great job at defining each model’s use case. The Sam Hillborne is designed for road-use only— paved, dirt, or gravel. Think smooth, hardpack, practically paved dirt roads. Its ideal usage is road riding, road touring, and road commuting.

Everything that makes it a great touring bike also makes it a great commuter, camper or all-rounder. The Sam is equally a great bike for a carrying food and camping gear and work gear into the office.

It clears a 700 x 45 mm or a 650b x 45 mm tire, has braze-ons a plenty (35 to 40 lb load limit for carrying gear – not a fully-loaded tourer,) uses v-brakes that stop a plenty, and is built from the highest quality, Rivendell SILVER tubes with investment cast lugs.
