Rivendell Platypus Frameset Pre-Order $1,750

NO bike is better than the Platypus for zooming and cruising, shopping and commuting and all purpose day-riding on pavement. The Platypus has plenty of fender room and braze-ons where they need to be, so it’s great in the rain, too. Same with racks. It’s not for heavily loaded tours, but racks always come in handy. If you don’t want racks, put at least one bag on it. Put the Platypus to work for you.

The Platypus is arguably the most beautiful bike in the current Rivendell line, and they try so damn hard to make them all beautiful. It’s the continuation, and fourth model in their long tradition of mixte frames. It’s for all-around road riding with loads up to maybe 30lbs.

Tumbleweed Prospector Complete Pre-Order $2,500

The Prospector is Tumbleweed Bicycle Co’s timeless and rugged expedition mountain touring bike, designed around the stalwart Rohloff Speedhub drivetrain. It’s a bike designed to be reliable, tough, and field serviceable in the harshest of conditions. In the face of ever-changing bicycle part standards and the integration of exotic materials, the Prospector is built to last and to buck the trend of short product cycles and throw-away upgrade culture.

Ryan Wilson has been putting the Prospector through the wringer: Ryan’s review.

The Prospector Pre-order is live now. See more at Tumbleweed.

Stuff we see on the ‘net that causes pause…

Perhaps you remember those raw Bullmoose bars we posted on a Radar Roundup a few weeks back? Well, David, a friend of John’s, extended them 5″ and got them nickel plated. They’re now living on John’s ’85 Annapurna…
