Eppy’s SL Eddy Merckx Pista

Reportage

Eppy’s SL Eddy Merckx Pista

I was absolutely blown away at the number of Eddy Merckx bikes I saw while in Jakarta but the owner whose collection took the cake was Eppy. You’ll see more, later today in Merckx Mondays but for now, I wanted to showcase his immaculate Eddy Merckx SL Pista. I don’t know about you, but when I see a red Merckx Pista, I think of Andy’s MAX Merckx (which I don’t think I ever posted my photos of?). While SL is no MAX, this bike is strikingly beautiful. See more below.

Celebrate the Tour with Rapha’s 5 Decades T-Shirts

Reportage

Celebrate the Tour with Rapha’s 5 Decades T-Shirts

The Tour is in full swing and as with any great stage race, there are legends. Riders who have not only conquered the countryside and mountains once, but five or more times. It began in 1962 with Jacques Anquetil, then in 1972, Eddy Merckx, 1982, Bernard Hinault, 1992, Miguel Indurain and in 2002, Lance Armstrong. Rapha’s 5 Decades t-shirts celebrate these men and their accomplishments.

These high quality cotton tees celebrate 50 years, or 5 decades, of trade teams returning to the Tour. Each of the 5 colorways play tribute to the respected team liveries. These shirts are cut slim, with side panels and a dropped tail for a better cycling fit. While they are not jerseys, per se, they do have a back pocket and are quite comfortable.

Each shirt has a unique printed emblem, dates and other details representing each legend. You know, the kind of thing that Rapha is known for… They cost $60 each or $240.00 for all 5 shirts bundled in a limited edition mussette.

Merckx Mondays

For once, I’m actually sitting on some great Merckx Mondays content, so I’m going to let it float me for a few posts. This week, we’ll start off with Cooper Ray‘s lovely photos of Jay’s Colorado Merckx road. These photos were taken for Cultivar, a new enterprise arising in Brooklyn. More on that later, for now, let’s check out these lovely photos, taken on a Brooklyn rooftop, just before a sunset. Shots like this make me miss NYC.

So today I’ve forced myself to edit photos and schedule posts for the week. As I’m sitting at GSC, Kyle yelled out “there’s your Merckx Mondays post for today” and points over to Kenny’s feet as he stood by the door.

Sure enough, there it was… Enjoy.

The 2012 Melburn Roobaix is coming and like a great event organizer, Andy’s doing all he can to promote this event. All I’m going to say is, if you can make it, DO. Lauren had a blast last year and I’m sure you will too. Don’t be intimidated by Nic’s legs here. She’s not going to be able to attend this year… So you’ll still have a chance at winning the group ride.

That said, the Fyxomatosis Melburn Roobaix kits are now available. Swoop one up while they’re still hanging out.

Packing a bike shouldn’t be that hard to do and yet, I’ve seen some horrid examples. Boxes made from three, with the edges exposed and the cardboard literally falling apart. Like everything FYXO, Andy did a little tutorial on his site not necessarily showing how to pack a bike, but how he packs a bike. Check it out here.

Having just let go of my beauty last year (my Stuttgart Pista, not a girl), I know how hard it is to say goodbye. Andy’s had to make that decision recently, forcing him to sell his beautiful MX-Leader track bike. Like my Stuttgart, his MXL represented his brand and his shop, FYXO Hub. But that doesn’t mean when you sell it, you can’t take it out for one last photo shoot. And like a good friend, he sent these my way!

While I didn’t get the chance to do a Shop Visit at Pushbike, I did manage to get some great Merckx Mondays content. Sarah has quite the collection of Eddy Merckx memorabilia at the shop, so if you haven’t been, you should really check it out. For now, see more below!

I’m gonna make this a real quick one because my flight’s about to board. Yesterday in Dolores Park, I met Adam from Montano Velo, where he had his gorgeous 10th Anniversary Merckx road with him. This is a quick Merckx Mondays, but enjoy some more details below!

This Merckx Mondays is from all over the globe, beginning with Sydney where Khalil spotted this Motorola outside a popular bakery. At first, I thought this was his Fyxo-acquired MXL, but alas, it’s another rider’s beaut.

Molteni shirts? Sure! These aren’t quite available yet but when they are, I’ll letcha know. They’re gonna be good and that’s not the only Eddy Merckx-inspired shirt for this week’s Merckx Mondays. There’s one more shirt in today’s post, along with a crazy Merckx time trial bike, sent in by a reader.

The Eddy Merckx Motorola livery might just be the most famous paint scheme in American cycling. I bumped into this bike while In Sydney a few weeks back. Gorgeous huh? But it’s not so peachy for Mr. Merckx these days. He’s facing charges in a Belgian police graft case… Yikes!
