Specialized Metal: The Aluminum Chisel DSW and Crux DSW

Specialized‘s last two bike releases have been made of aluminum. Earlier this month, the brand announced its all-new Crux DSW, and today, its XC machine, the Chisel DSW, was also refreshed with an aluminum chassis. Both bikes are lightweight, race-oriented, and metal. Needless to say, we took note…

2024 Crux DSW

The Crux DSW is more than the lightest alloy gravel bike ever made. The brand took everything it learned creating the carbon Crux and applied its patented D’Aluisio Smartweld to make it a reality in alloy.

Lightest Weight

At just 1399 grams*, the Crux DSW is the lightest alloy gravel frame in the world. Combined with a Fact12r Crux carbon fork, a lightweight racing group, and a complete Crux DSW tips the scales at 9.37g.

*56cm in the lightest colorway. Production frames will vary.

Capable

The new Cruz clears a 700 x 47 mm tire and up to 2.1” on a 650b wheel, allowing for fat tires on the most unforgiving terrain.

Ultra-Responsive

Through using D’Aluisio Smartweld – a super-precise welding technique – to fine-tune the properties of alloy to deliver a responsive chassis at the pedals while being supple in the saddle. A longer reach delivers better weight distribution with a lower stack creates a performance-first position, combined with 72mm of bottom-bracket drop means the Crux is dialed for speed.

The Crux DSW Comp retails for $2,600 and the Crux DSW Frameset $1,700.

2024 Chisel DSW

With 120 mm travel in the front and 110 mm of wheel travel in the rear, the Chisel is a racing pedigree platform that relies on the lightest weight aluminum chassis in the world for peak performance.

Lightest Weight

The lightest aluminum full suspension bike in the world. 18.4% lighter – 2.72 kg for size medium frame, 12.86 kg for Chisel Comp Shimano complete size medium – than the closest competitor and sharing geometry and kinematics from Specialized’s World Cup ready Epic 8 mountain bike, the all-new Chisel is a performance-minded bike for racing or all-day exploits.

Aluminum Chassis

Also utilizing the Specialized D’Aluisio Smartweld system but in a more complex chassis, the new Chisel is manufacturered from M5 aluminum hydroformed tubes, features a progressive XC geometry with 110mm travel, internal cable routing, and a BSA bottom bracket.

The Chisel Comp Shimano retails for $3,400, Chisel Base Shimano  $2,600, Chisel RockShox/SRAM Base $2,600, Chisel Frame $2,000.
