We love the Tumbleweed Prospector. It’s a burly, do-it-all, expedition-minded tourer. Ryan Wilson put his through the wringer in Asia for 8 months and we’ve shared a number of build galleries over the years. Tumbleweed Bikes, the makers of the Prospector touring bike (read Ryan Wilson’s Review here) have been teasing a drop bar tourer for a while now and just announced the pre-order for the Stargazer, a steel bike with clearance for a 29×2.5″ or 27.5×3″ wheelset, a 69º head angle, upright riding position, bosses galore and more.

Tumbleweed’s 800mm wide Persuader bars are a great option for your touring bike, with a large, flat area at the stem clamp for bags, zero front sweep to keep those bags nice and neat, 50mm rise, a 30º back sweep, and weighing only 638g. These bars can easily be cut down if 800mm is too wide for your taste but can certainly be ridden uncut.

Tumbleweed Bikes’ rack designs have been in high demand since their inception. The T-Rack is a lightweight saddlebag or handlebar bag support, complete with cargo cage attachments on the support legs while the Mini Pannier Rack is inspired by a traditional rear rack but designed to take lightweight and compact panniers. Tumbleweed cannot keep both of these racks in stock, so they’ve opened a pre-order to help ensure everyone can get one this round.

Small businesses are the foundation of the outdoor industry and many have been seriously impacted by the pandemic over the last couple of months. While money is understandably tight for a significant portion of people, if you do have the means and are dreaming up your next bike trip or local ride, I wanted to offer up a few suggestions for gear that I believe is worthy of investing in from some of my favorite small businesses in the industry.

Tumbleweed’s Prospector touring bikes are built around the Rohloff hub platform. These do-it-all tourers are at home in the backcountry, on washboarded roads, or ripping and flowy singletrack. Their geometry is tuned to take on fully-loaded tours, while still being equally as fun un-loaded. Just announced today, the new Prospector frames are now available for presale. There are a limited number of frames available in each size and color and they are due to arrive February 2019.

Jay Bird Films‘ project with Tumbleweed Bicycle Co is live today! Filmed entirely on bicycle, El Silencio brings the viewer along through the highs and lows of four cyclists as they traverse the mountainous Peru Divide bikepacking route.

This is big news! Back in 2017, Tumbleweed Bicycle Co made a trip to Peru. During that Journey, Daniel from Tumbleweed and Cas Gilbert really fell in love with the RatKing Frames T Rack. Tonight’s premiere of El Silencio: Cycling the Peruvian Andes at Golden Saddle was excellent. The visuals, story, and cast of characters are as memorable as the scenery.
