I Don’t Know What I Love More…

This bike, or this Camera. I’ve been using the hell out of both as of late and while there’s not enough medium format content to make it an official Recent Roll post, there have been some gems coming out of this lens. The biggest challenge has been using this Distagon T* 50mm with its dual focusing rings. That and general exposure. Shooting with a Hasselblad has really changed the way I look at film photography. I don’t see myself picking up my AE-1 for a while.

Jakarta!

Reportage

Jakarta!

I’m still kinda buzzing from my time in Indonesia and these photos from my T4 in Jakarta aren’t helping. Riding around a city like this, with 20 people can be a bit nerve-wrecking at times but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun. We all had a blast and as these photos show, were smiling ear to ear the whole time.

Tracko Goes Metal with Moth Attack

Now something you might not know about Kyle is that below those Birkenstocks lies a doom-metal head, as evident here by his latest video for GSC and Moth Attack:

“I needed a travel bike but didn’t have the money for a custom frame. So Megan at Moth Attack just put S&S Couplers on my FBM Sword.”

Fucking Electric Wizard!

Kyle’s Got the Right (FBM) Idea

In fact, Kyle’s Sword has led me to pick one up and probably do the same thing. I wanted a beat-it-to-hell track bike to travel with and lock up at bars / wheelie / thrash around on but I didn’t want to go with a Taiwanese bike. I had completely forgotten about the FBM Sword (as has most of the world). Maybe it’s time for a little Sword resurgence? Made in the USA. Built by dudes who like to party and infused with dragon blood.

And of course Megan at Moth Attack is putting S&S on this beast.

Raleigh Bicycles: 2013 Macaframa Track Frame

When I was emailed this, my first thought was “genius”. If you’ve ever been to SF and seen aluminum trackbikes, you know the initial livery is not what people tend to display. Instead, stickers, paint markers and other things cover frames, from chainstay to top tube. So why even have a paint design? Maybe that’s what Raleigh was going for with the new Macaframa track frameset? Either way, I dig this. Expect more once the 2013 line launches.

Death Spray Custom Kills All

I’ve been posting about Death Spray Custom for as long as David’s been putting his work online. He’s one of the most famous bicycle painters and it’s not because of his lug or box lining. David’s work is heavily inspired by automotive, motorbike, Razzle Dazzle and anything else that can be applied to a complex curvature. There’s a great interview up on CycleEXIF, so head over and check it out.

New blogs pop up every day but rarely do you see one start off with original content like this. The North Race is a new site coming from the UK and the landscapes captured in this video are amazing!

Merckx Mondays

Merckx Mondays

As we were riding over to Eppy’s house, everyone kept telling me about his Merckx collection and a mural that Woof painted in his bike room. I had no idea what to expect, so imagine my surprise when I saw this Molteni painting staring me down as I entered this room. The joke of the afternoon was “there’s like 4 weeks worth of Merckx Mondays in there”…

Eppy’s SL Eddy Merckx Pista

Reportage

Eppy’s SL Eddy Merckx Pista

I was absolutely blown away at the number of Eddy Merckx bikes I saw while in Jakarta but the owner whose collection took the cake was Eppy. You’ll see more, later today in Merckx Mondays but for now, I wanted to showcase his immaculate Eddy Merckx SL Pista. I don’t know about you, but when I see a red Merckx Pista, I think of Andy’s MAX Merckx (which I don’t think I ever posted my photos of?). While SL is no MAX, this bike is strikingly beautiful. See more below.

Golden Saddle Cyclery Grand Prix

I like good vibes, track bikes and races, which about sums up this video from the Golden Saddle Cyclery Grand Prix at Encino Velodrome:

“Golden Saddle Cyclery hosted an amazing day of races to raise funds for the Encino Velodrome. The races consisted of a 3 category Omnium as well as a separate sprint race. Aside from racing, the highlight would have to be the camaraderie and the amazing food prepared by Todd of Burrito Project fame. Golden Saddle would like to thank the racers, spectators and all of our sponsors who donated prizes to help keep this amazing facility open. A special Thank You goes out to Keiron, of Ride The Black Line, for throwing this great event and allowing us to participate. Make sure to make it out to the rest of the summer series going on through out the months of July and August.
