SOLD OUT: Nature is Metal 26oz Purist Bottles

Sorry these are sold out!

In my old Latin class, one saying always resonated with me; nunquam aliud natura aliud sapientia dicit, or “never does nature say one thing and wisdom another.” There’s not much available online as to where this saying originated from or who was the first to scribe it, yet there is something to be said about the use of nunquam, versus numquam.

In the internet age, a lot of information that lived in textbooks never made its way to the WWW. This saying, its roots, and the reason for the nunquam over numquam is a perfect example. A few years back, I had a photocopy from an old text book with the saying highlighted, and got it tattooed on my arm. Yet now, that very paper is long gone and with it, my record of its origins.

This is a very limited run of bottles, due to the nature of the design. It’s a point of departure from our usual style and that’s what makes it so unique.

Buy two large (26oz) bottles in white, with black caps for $25.00 plus shipping. Let them get scratched and messed up, because with the white material and the subject matter of the print, it’ll just look better with age.

Our normally friendly jackal gets revenge on the farmer for intruding in its domain. Nature is metal… and pissed.

Checking in With Strawfoot Handmade

Checking in With Strawfoot Handmade

Readers of this website might know of Strawfoot Handmade‘s bike-related products. Garrett and Vince make saddle bags, musettes, and other on or off-the-bike portage solutions. In recent years, Strawfoot has pivoted to make more than just bike bags, or bags in general. With the growing popularity of Sprinter van buildouts and other forms of mini-RVs, Garrett began making insultated window shades for the various van models, allowing the owners to not only reflect heat but offer a bit of privacy from the outside world. As you can imagine with the increased popularity of van buildouts, Strawfoot is very busy. When I was in Santa Cruz before the Sea Otter Classic, I checked in with Strawfoot, who had just moved into Rock Lobster’s old space

NAHBS 2019: Porter Cycles Art Deco Townie – Most Comprehensive Artisan Award

“As I was posting process photos of this bike on Instagram, people kept saying, oh it’s so Art Deco, and I didn’t know what that even was. I finally opened a book and said, yeah! It totally is. I was so inundated with it being everywhere in New York that I didn’t even know it had influenced my work so much. Art Deco is in the buildings, the subway, the gutters in the street. It’s everywhere.”

I hate to throw quotes around that saying because I’m sure I got some of it wrong but it really resonated with me. Tom Porter is a sculptor in Brooklyn, New York. His brand, Porter Cycles is a side gig for him. As a full-time sculptor and fabricator, he began building bikes in 2010 and this year at NAHBS, he brought this beautiful townie that presents an interesting dichotomy.

NAHBS 2019: Chris King Finally Offers XD Drivers on R45 Road Hubs

It took a long time and there’s a long story behind the reason for the abnormal wait but at NAHBS this year, Chris King released the plug-n-play XD driver for their R45 road hubs. Now, there is a compatibility window for this replacement driver, so you should check with your local bike shop to see if your hubs can take the 11-speed driver, but if you have a Centerlock hub, then you’re good to go. Head to your local shop to inquire about the upgrade so you can use SRAM’s 10-42 cassette on your all-road bike.
