For Autumn / Winter 2013, Rapha revisits some of their classic cold weather gear. My favorites this season are the thermal bibs, the longsleeve brevet jersey and the extensive women’s line. See the full product like at Rapha and check out the lookbook here.
If you’ve been paying attention to West America, you would have seen that Jordan Hufnagel has sold all of his frame building tools and is heading to Patagonia with James Crowe, his shop mate. Before they leave, however, they’re finishing up some projects with US manufacturers. One of those companies is Danner Boots. Here’s a video lookbook the guys helped put together.
All I have to say is: rope swing.
Year after year, the Rapha City Riding line expands and evolves into a full range of practical garments. My favorite this year is the Merino Gilet and of course, the Town Gloves. See the full lookbook at Rapha. You can also purchase the new City Riding line at Rapha.cc.

Benny Gold and I have gotten to know each other over the years through various outlets, one of which being the track bike scene in SF. Back in the mid-2000’s Benny was designing logos for numerous bike shops and brands, including Mash and City Grounds. Since then, he’s been focusing almost exclusively on his brand. Each season, look books are essential in a brand’s marketing and while I was in SF, he wanted me to shoot some photos. I don’t really do lookbooks, so it was something different from my day to day shooting style.
Dosnoventa introduces their new clothing line called “Opening Collection”. All handmade in Barcelona. See more at Dosnoventa.
For over 8 months now, Lauren has been loving her Outlier women’s shorts and I wish I had taken more photos of them while shooting her Icarus because they fit her like a glove! Here’s the scoop on the full Outlier women’s line:
“Why should better clothing just be made for the boys? It’s taken far too long, but we’ve been working extensively on our women’s clothing and we’ve finally got some more good stuff for you. We started by taking some of our favorite garments and rebuilt them from the ground up for women’s bodies using the same great fabrics found in our menswear, of course. So here’s four for the ladies; four new garments that we hope you’ll consider future classics.”

When FYXO moved out of the “hub”, Northside Wheelers moved in. Now nestled behind Shifter Bikes, Mal’s shop has expanded to almost three times the size of the old shop. He’s still stocking a lot of the same brands and even some new ones. In a shop like this, you spend a lot of time asking yourself “what’s for sale and what’s for show?” but that’s part of the charm. Check out some more selects in the Gallery!
Nestled in between Pearl Velo and Avery County Cycles is Berkeley Supply Co. Having opened last December, Eli has focused entirely on made in the USA clothing and accessories. For someone like me, who usually buys clothing when I travel (not a whole lot of options in Austin believe it or not), I was very impressed with the shop and environment Eli has created. Many of the brands he carries I’ve been wearing for the past few years and have had the best of luck with them. A lot of these clothes are what I would consider an investment, as Berkeley Supply Co’s slogan states “outfitter of things that last”.
Check out some photos in the Gallery. Find shop hours and info below.
Hypebeast has the drop on the new Levi’s Commuter Series spring lookbook for 2013. Head on over to see some familiar faces. Sup brehs?
The Megane are the original Cadence glasses. In fact, the name “megane” means glasses in Japanese. Made in Japan and ready for your prescription. Available in 10 pieces each color now at Cadence.
Today, Chrome launched the 415 Urban Work Boot and the STORM 415 Urban Work Boot. These aren’t your normal sneakers. Think of them as mobility work boots: all the stability of a boot with the comfort of a sneaker. The STORM 415 is made from waterproof cordura (pictured) and the 415 Urban is fabric. I like the look of these boots and there’s more information below, including the official PR from Chrome.
After months upon months of design, development and prototyping, the Giro New Road line is now available at select shops. I’ve had hands on experience with many of these pieces and I’m very impressed with the concept and construction. While they look like casual silhouettes, these jerseys are part of an innovative design that allows you to access pockets on the bib “briefs”. Some of these products are meant to work as a kit and others are to be treated as a normal jersey. It’s hard to describe but the product photos below explain better than I can.
The technical, merino blends fit great and have clean, modern lines but most importantly for me, the New Road line is made in the USA and is still affordable. I have and will commend Giro for developing, designing and manufacturing this product line in the state of California.
There’s more to come but for now, you can see the product shots below.
I was just thinking the other day about how much I missed my Brooks Team Pro saddle. If you can’t tell, I really miss my touring bike. Or maybe I just miss touring and camping. This new video from Brooks just hit my email, featuring their new Land’s End & John O’Groats Travel Panniers and if panniers aren’t on your foreseeable agenda, check out the new saddle, bar tape and grips offerings below.
The Levi’s® Commuter Line is in its third season and the line has come a long way since the first year’s offerings. New for 2013 is the Commuter Parka, Commuter Shorts and Commuter Cargo Pants, along with the classic Commuter Trucker, Chambray and Jeans. Check out the line at your local Levi’s® flagship store, or here online.
Rapha published their Autumn Winter City Riding look book for 2012. Shot in St. Petersburg, the new line focuses on layering wool and introduces a few new products like the Transfer Jacket (personal favorite of mine). The whole line looks great. Check out a few more selects below and the whole thing at Rapha.
