It’s not often that I have to buy a fishing permit to do a Shop Visit but when Why Cycles and Revel Bikes offered up a good time riding and fishing in and around the Western Slope city of Carbondale, Colorado, I couldn’t resist the offer. The collision of outdoor activities is my favorite and knowing a whole weekend of mountain biking and fly fishing awaited me, I was eager to see how it would play out, all while learning about the brands the entire bike industry seemed to be talking about…

Last year, ENVE opened its doors to the public for an Open House event. Once inside, visitors took a tour of its Ogden, Utah facilities and were greeted by two-dozen custom bikes from builders across the globe. This year the pandemic forced ENVE to pivot a bit, holding a virtual tour and framebuilder showcase they’re calling the Builder Round-Up. We’re pleased to once again host this showcase, with two-part coverage, so read on below for part two of a full breakdown on these Beautiful Bicycles along with a few teasers of new ENVE product…

Silca’s 3D Printed Mensola Computer Mount

3D printed titanium parts have ushered in a new wave of bicycle design and fabrication. From the UK’s Sturdy Cycles to Australia’s Prova Cycles and the US’ Firefly, each of these brands uses 3D printing technologies to make their bikes stronger, lighter weight, and more modern. Silca recently launched their Mensola Computer Mount, which retails at $175, and bolts directly to your stem’s faceplate.

Due to the 3D modeling and fabrication technologies, they could produce a number of designs by simply 3D modeling and printing them. This is the future of componentry design and yeah, it’s expensive, but it’s mostly just cool that it exists.

There are many, talented framebuilders in Australia and the Handmade Bicycle Show Australia looks to expose their best work to the masses. The show returns this year, on April 27th-29th, showcasing the builders and products born in Australia. As an example, FYXO recently showcased this Prova Cycles Molti all-road bike, which in itself, has many details, but I can’t get over how good King Cages look in black and that Busyman saddle treatment! A few weeks back, during our State Bicycle Ti All-Road review, a conversation about titanium unfurled in the comments. The Radavist is uniquely positioned to have this discussion as we’ve amassed more Beautiful Bicycle galleries than anyone else on the web, and a large portion of these feature titanium frames. Aside from pristine days of riding, the GiRodeo was also a semi-nomadic bike show. The Service Course has long-term collaborative relationships with a number of builders, working together to pair builders and customers appropriately. I say “semi-nomadic” because the majority of builders rode their bikes, but also because the bikes that were not being ridden magically popped up in restaurants and breweries or wherever else events were held as part of the show. This is a rundown of my favorite bikes, many of which were part of the GiRodeo, and others were part of The Service Course’s furniture.

Tom Ritchey is not what you would call an open book. Rather, he’s a whole library; a labyrinth with many alleys, chockfull of stories, where everything splits and branches like the best network of singletrack, and there are no cul de sacs. Every door leads you to another room. Every answer opens up another question. There are no shortcuts.

The following is just a casual conversation. In it, you might not find all the details of the next frame that he is working on but you may find a better understanding into what it took for Tom Ritchey to become Tom Ritchey.
