Sea Otter Classic 2019: Mosaic GT1 Sparkle Motion Chubby Road – Builders for Builders

We’re here at Sea Otter Classic and in the throughs of the first day’s chaos of setup. While we get our bearings straight and document the show, we’ll share this beautiful Mosaic Sparkle all road. The GT1 is Mosaic’s titanium gravel bike with a geometry tuned for all day rides. It’s built with Mavic’s new All Road Carbon SL wheelset, SRAM AXS, Zipp components and WTB’s Venture 27.5 x 47mm tires.

This bike, along with McGovern, Sklar, Stinner, Argonaut, will be a part of the Builders for Builders raffle fundraiser for the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

What do you think? Class? Or Flash? Or both? It’s growing on me for sure. If you’re at the ‘Otter, swing through the Echos Communications booth at A42 to check it out along with the rest of the builder’s offerings.

Builders for Builders: a Lost & Found Custom Bike Raffle for the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship

This year, I’ll be covering the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s Triple Crown events: Lost & Found, Grinduro, and the Downieville Classic. My intent with this is to grow the Stweardship’s presence, help them raise money and spread the stoke for the Lost Sierra. Jumping on board with this project is just the icing on the dirt cake!

“Custom frame makers Sklar, Stinner, Mosaic, and McGovern have teamed up with world-class component makers ENVE, Chris King, SRAM and WTB to create four unique and beautiful custom bicycles that will be raffled after the gun goes off for the Lost and Found Gravel race. All proceeds will benefit the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is a non-profit organization that builds and maintains multi-use trails in the Sierra Buttes, Tahoe, Plumas and Lassen national forests. Their mission is building sustainable recreation-based communities through stewardship, job creation and hosting world-class events. SBTS has donated an estimated 72,000 hours of volunteer labor, maintained over 800 miles of shared use trails and created nearly 80 miles of new trails since 2003.

The bikes will be exhibited at the Lost and Found gravel race and the raffle will be live, with $20 tickets, from June 2nd through June 15th, hosted by The Pro’s Closet. All donations and raffle ticket purchases are tax deductible.”

We’ve Got a 2024 MADE Bike Show Photo Dropbox for All the Builders

If we shot your bike at 2024 MADE, here’s a Dropbox folder with all the photos. We’ve got one more bike gallery next week, and at that point, we’ll also upload those photos. We encourage framebuilders to use these photos on their websites and on social media, and if you need high-resolution photos, please shoot John or Josh an email.

This was a record-breaking effort from our team, with eighty-four total bikes documented.

We do this out of love for the framebuilding community and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of you!

Stolen Garage: Multidisciplinary Velo Cafe, Bike Shop, and Framebuilders in Paris, France

Located in the heart of Paris, France, Stolen Garage is an innovative multidisciplinary space, or “lieu hybride,” in French. It brings together a variety of disciplines under one roof. The venue combines a café/bistro, bike shop, fully-equipped repair workshop, and a custom frame building and painting studio.

To accompany Josh’s photographic documentation of the Stolen Garage space, we tapped co-owner Finlay Skillen to pen an overview of their background and unique approach to building community and inspiring creativity around a love for bicycles in Paris.

Tigged in Texas: Checking in with Austin Framebuilders Chumba Cycles

My friends at Chumba Cycles have had a truly inspirational story since re-launching the brand in early 2014. While the name Chumba Cycles has been around for some time in the mountain bike world, this is an entirely different company when compared to the brand that launched in California during the early ’90s. Without going into the details too much, Vince and Mark purchased the brand a few years back and began making their tig-welded steel bikes in-house in Austin, TX. Around that same time, they moved shops, and on a recent trip to the Lonestar State, I swung through to check out their new digs and see some of the bikes they were building up for customers.

2017 Philly Bike Expo: Walk the Floor and Meet the Builders
Photos by Brad Quartuccio, words by John Watson

Over the years, the Philly Bike Expo has grown to become the Northeast’s premiere bicycle gathering, bringing together frame builders and independent companies alike. This pairing makes for a weekend that not only draws in foot traffic from the streets of Philadelphia but cycling enthusiasts from all over the United States. Most importantly, the Philly Bike Expo is put on by the great Bilenky family, whose main motivation is to unite the scene in a fun, energetic environment and it shows.

Photographer Brad Quartuccio was hired this year to document the show, the bikes and the builders who make this event truly unique. Brad was kind enough to share this wonderful bounty of images, which I’m very excited to share here on the Radavist. After seeing these portraits on his Instagram, I hoped to be able to display them in high-res.

It’s been a while since I’ve attended the show, which falls during a particularly busy time of year for me but after seeing both Jarrod and Brad’s photos, makes me want to book my flight well in advance.
