When you drop off six rolls of film to my developers, they just burn the entire batch on a CD, mixing them all up. Different cameras, different films and all out of order. Kinda like mix-matching memories. Out of my last Recent Roll, I think these are some of my favorites. They’re both from the day I met up with Crihs ( @Crihsshirc ) and shot photos of his Continuum. Check out a few more from this B&W roll here on my Flickr.

Crihs and His Continuum Track
Crihs is in town for the NAHBS and yesterday he and I did a bit of off-roading in the Greenbelt trails. When he told me he was only bringing his track bike, I knew he’d have a blast here but I also hesitated when I took him to the trails. Luckily for him, riding in NYC traffic, riding across the country on his track bike and winning Monster Track helps out when you’re navigating rock gardens. Halfway through the trails, we stopped to take a few photos of his Continuum track bike at the swimming hole.

Blog Introduction: Crihs’ Unttld Tumblr
Crihs, the winner of Monster Track X and co-director of Empire, has started a Tumblr. He’s got a few nice photos from life as a NYC Messenger and cyclist, as well as random internet finds. I really like this shot he took at a recent Cyclocross race. Not sure who took it, so lemme know in the comments Crihs. It’s still Unttld and gaining momentum at the moment, so check back frequently for new posts.

Crihs’ 42 Below Updates
Crihs is doing quite well on the 42 Below Ride. He’s always updating his Twitter with times and average speeds. He just made a quick little post to the Empire blog and I agree man, I get anxious to return home when I’m away from NYC for too long!

Bikestock Presents “Frenk”
Here’s a video from Crihs:
“Francesco Martucci is a cyclist from Italy who has been coming to the Red Hook Crit for the past 4 years. Every year Martucci comes to Red Hook with the expectation of winning the race and every year he has fallen short. He came very close in Milano No. 3. Late in the race coming into the final turn before the finish with a few laps to go, he slid out. We follow Martucci through his preparation for Red Hook No. 7 in Brooklyn.
In Milano No. 3 he crashed on the first lap. Got back up and later attacked off the front. Rainier from Mash bridged up to him with only a few laps to go and they held a gap over the peloton. The peloton caught them finally with less than 2 laps to go. He still finished 4th that year.”
Best of luck to everyone racing the Red Hook Crit Milano!

Merckx Mondays
When I saw this on Crihs’ Instagram from the Bicycle Film Festival‘s Joy Ride art show in Mexico City, I had to get a higher res photo for Merckx Mondays. Luckily, Doug D was there and shot a proper photo. I’m so stoked on this piece and if I had the wall space, I’d try to purchase it from the artist! Here’s the scoop:
Name: 148+fracc
Website: www.facebok.com/yopower
Materials: wood and acrylic paint
Technique: xylography
Work description:
“This piece is based on Eddy Merckx’s hour record done in Mexico’s Agustin Melgar velodrome in 1972. The name of the piece comes exactly from that: 148 laps and fraction that he did to complete the record. The rasterized image is carved on wood pieces with the regalement size for velodromes. Also the colour lines are official except that the cuerda line is red instead of black just as it was back then.
Generally in my work I use a contrast between antique techniques and new concepts. That’s what gives all my work a discursive character. In this case this piece was specially made for the Joy Ride art show of the Bicycle Film Festival Mexico.”
So rad! Speaking of art pieces, Tracko came across this eBay auction!

That’s a Great Photo of Evan Murphy
I caught this photo of Evan Murphy ripping his Death Spray Stanridge on the Death Spray Custom blog. Photographed by Greg Falski of SOFB, during the Red Hook Crit Milano. This was after I came across both Crihs’ Red Hook Crit Barcelona portrait of Evan and an interview with DSC photographer Mitch Payne on Nowhere Fast!
It’s been a busy day for Death Spray!

Talk About SF Track Bike Vibes
Photos by Dylan Bigby
Around this time each year, I start to yearn for riding in SF. I missed out on Ride N Style, but will be finding myself there in about a week. Til then, Dylan’s Tumblr, Times is Weird and Crihs’ Tumblr, I No Longer Live in New York, have been making me want to chill with the brehs again… Great photos man!

Mission Bay Crit 2013
Photos by Mike Martin
Crihs‘ Mission Bay Crit was a huge success in SF and Mike Martin from MASH headed out to capture the night. I love low-light, moody photography like this. I’m stoked to hear this event went off smoothly and can’t wait to see more of these go down in SF.
Check out the official race report at MASH.

Jake Ricker: Amalgamate and Born to Die Zines
Jake Ricker reached out to his photography buddies to pull together a new 70-page zine out called Amalgamate. The photos are great and the proceeds are going to help cover his wife’s medical bills after she was attacked by three dogs on a hike last year.
Some of the friends that submitted photography and art are:
Dustin Klein, Damian Riehl, Kyle Kelley, Jason Yim, Dylan Bigby, Kyler Martz, Matt Lingo, Terry Barentsen, Chas Christiansen, Crihs Thormann and Aron Dubios.
He is also still selling his other 60 page zine called Born To Die of his photography. $12 each or $20 for both. To help out and order PayPal $12 or $20 as a “gift” to jakericker@gmail.com. And make sure to include your address.

#FixieFamous Party at the Messenger Mansion
I really, honestly have very little recollection of this roll. Rather than deleting a bunch of photos, I’m putting them all up. Sorry Crihs. With everyone in town for RideNStyle, Chas decided to have a party at the Messenger Mansion. As expected, a ton of people showed up for the band and the booze but stayed for the shenanigans. This included drawing all over poor Jerome and throwing water balloons as we downed a bottle of Bookers.
As the night got out of hand, Chas relocated the party to Dolores where a highschool prom had apparently ended. The rest of the night was spent convincing girls in sequined dresses to fly down a metal slide on a skateboard. Yeah, blurry night.
