The Side Bustle Panniers are a compact and lightweight pannier for the rougher routes you have in mind. Originally designed for one of Jay’s friends to use in the Ride Across Arizona (RAAZ) race, a 600+ mile gravel route along the Northern half of the state, which went off without a hitch.
The tapered shape is to allow extra clearance when maneuvering obstacles and the fabric on the bottom and back (against the rack) are highly abrasion resistant. The attachment area is a hypalon panel, reinforced with webbing and backed with an internal batten to keep the bag’s shape and rigidity when strapped to a rack.
The bag is made of waterproof materials but the sewing process makes the finished product not 100% waterproof, yet quite weatherproof. Use dry bags for items you need 100% waterproof.
