Pentabike: Handlebar Muststash

Words cannot describe how cool this is. Utilizing every nook and cranny on your bike to hold your extra items is always a challenge. Sometimes you just don’t have room in your jersey pocket for your patch kit or a mid-ride snack. Now thanks to Pentabike‘s new Handlebar Muststash bar ends, you’ll never have this problem again. Simply pack the bar-end with whatever and pop it into place for safe keeping. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination.

Head on over to Pentabike to check out all the details. The guys are only making 24 for their first run, so if you’re interested in picking one up, now’s your chance. Many thanks to Stevil for the heads up!

Chris’ Yamaguchi School Light Tourer

Reportage

Chris’ Yamaguchi School Light Tourer

Yamaguchi’s framebuilding school has turned out some incredible talent over the years. While many enroll with hopes of becoming the next hot thing, some go to just learn the art. Chris Chou, a guy who probably has the most bikes featured on the Radavist, ever, went to Yamaguchi a few years ago to build a light tourer.

Like all Yamaguchi school frames, this bike was made from True Temper tubing and brazed by Chris over the course of a few weeks. When he was finished, he sent it off to Fresh Frame for paint.

Because Chris had never built a bicycle before, the original stem developed a stress riser, so Chris had his then housemate Ian at Icarus make him a stem. From there, the Nitto bars and Campagnolo 10 speed group add a considerable amount of class to what many would consider a utilitarian bicycle. PAUL e’rything, a Crane Bell, Mellow Johnny’s stem cap, my old Pentabike bar end and there’s a lil #JahBlessed going on with the Salsa Rasta Skewers and Ride Jah Bike button.

SON’s Edelux system and a Supernova E3 rear, lights the way and an Ostrich saddle bag holds the daily commuting needs. Cole rode this bike during the Yonder Journal (dis)Enchanted Rock Brovet and slashed a tire pretty badly on a river crossing, so Chris threw a Conti on, leaving the tires mis-matched, which I would add to the character of this bike.

I really love photographing bicycles like this.

Josh’s LOW

Reportage

Josh’s LOW

After the 2011 NACCCs, Josh relocated to Austin from SF, where he worked at TCB Courier. Once settling in here in town, he took Andrew Low up on his offer for a track frame. Andrew went to town on this one with the finishing. This was the first frame that Andrew etched the owner’s name into the top tube. Other finishing notes include the TCB Courier logo etched in and Andrew’s signature on the non-drive chainstay.

Josh wanted this bike to ride fast and secure, so he went with some SRAM Omniums and a bullhorn on his cockpit. What better way to top off the build than with a Pentabike Muststash?

One Silver Bar End

One Silver Bar End

A few people emailed me yesterday after posting the photos of my Eddy Merckx track bike, asking why I had one silver bar end and one black compression plug. One guy went as far to say that the silver bar end “ruined the photo” and “compromised the whole build”. Really? It sure doesn’t ruin the ride

Hopefully this answers your questions. I guess I could always just drop the black one in there…

Must Have: Black N Brass Muststash

Remember the Pentabike Black N Brass Muststash? When I first saw these go up for pre-order, I grabbed one. Especially since my old one is still in Brooklyn. There are a few things that come up every so often in the cycling world that just get me giddy and Pentabike‘s hit the nail on the head. I used my silver Muststash so much that I figured why not? Everything looks better in black. Next up, they need to make a matching fake bar end plug.

My Affinity 212 Loaded Down for the Philly Bike Expo

My Affinity 212 Loaded Down for the Philly Bike Expo

With all this talk about the Philly Bike Expo, a few of us decided to ride our bikes to Philly. Rather than taking the shitty highways and service roads, we’re going off the beaten trail a bit. Initially I was planning on riding my Merckx but the thought of locking it up and throwing it on the Chinatown bus for the ride home made me cringe. Since I just got the Affinity 212 dialed in, I thought it’d make for a good ride.

Check out some more photos below.
