Yes, it is a sad day for the frame building community. Today, Dario Pegoretti passed at the age of 62. If you need a refresh on this man’s accomplishments, scroll through our search field. It’s a sad day for makers, artists, and the education sector – don’t forget about his Più di Pegoretti – alike. Ride in peace.

“Dario Pegoretti is an Italian bicycle framebuilder who is widely considered to be one of the greatest steel framebuilders in the world today. An apprentice under master builder Luigino Milani, he has also often credited with pioneering lugless and TIG welded frames.

Aside from his mastery of framebuilding, Dario is a remarkable artist and often hand paints his frames using custom designs that he creates himself. He’s built and painted bikes for some of the sport’s greatest athletes and his frames and anything he paints are sought after by collectors around the world.”

These three frames were built by Dario Pegoretti and painted by the Stuttgart State Academy design students. If you see something you like, bid over at Mano Nella Mano. All proceeds will go to a children hospice in Germany.

For weeks he and the students wrestled with ideas and plans — thinking, drawing and designing. The many ideas finally gelled into a singular project: Più di Pegoretti.”

Anyone who’s attended design school, can attest to at least one professor who has singlehandedly changed their outlook on the world. I’d imagine Pegoretti would be such a professor. Check out the Più di Pegoretti project and see what his students came up with this semester!

Dario Pegoretti is a true artist. A builder who’s known for his elaborate paintings as much as he’s regarded for his frame design and construction. His work evokes varied reactions spanning from awe to confusion and yet, there’s a beauty in each brush stroke.
