The Strawfoot Easter Egg Hunt in Austin Was a Success!
“Take the path less traveled going west and find me atop a metal nest….”
This morning on a quick road ride, I snuck down into an old trestle bridge and hid the Strawfoot pouch, containing stickers, top caps, a pair of Strawfoot Arcade socks and a special coupon for the prize. Before Jonathan and I had finished our ride, a handful of people had shown up around the same time to snipe the egg.
Gavin was the first to the bag, yet he shared the bounty with the other easter egg hunters. We met up shortly after and I gave him his prize: the James Brand knife. Color me jealous!
We’re all stoked on this contest and would like to thank all parties involved!

Strawfoot for Oakley
Sean from Team Dream recently visited Garrett at Strawfoot and came across a neat project he’s working on with Oakley. These small tool pouches have a ratcheting wrench and a Crankbrothers tool. They’ll fit in your pocket, or your bag. Unfortunately, these aren’t for sale. Not yet anyway. Hopefully that’ll change!
Check out how the whole thing comes together in this Gif that Sean made.

Strawfoot: Cycling Musette in New Colors
The best musette I’ve ever used is back, in new webbing colors. These waxed canvas musettes are durable, will fit sandwiches, booze, books, (you name it) and feature a sternum strap that keeps them from swaying on a ride. I’ve done numerous 80+ mile rides with mine and loved it.
Check out the Cycling Musette, now in black or orange webbing at Strawfoot!

Ride Along: Garrett Kautz from Strawfoot
Ride Along: Garrett Kautz from Strawfoot
Words and photos by John Watson
Strawfoot is one of those companies that has gained a lot of momentum over the past year in the cycling industry because of social media and word of mouth. While Strawfoot is a bag company, they’re most known for their socks. I was first introduced to Garrett from Brian Vernor last year, when I visited his small shop in Santa Cruz.
Over the past few months, Strawfoot has grown. They’ve moved to a bigger shop, are sponsoring a cross team and yes, he’s continued making socks, which sell out almost immediately…

West Coast Best Coast Wrap Up
Well, we’re here in Los Angeles, after four days of pedal to the metal driving down Highway 1 from Portland to Los Angeles. The Pacific Coast Highway is one of the nation’s most popular bicycle touring routes and unfortunately, that also means it’s one of the most popular RV / Camper / no-clue how to drive windy road tourist destinations.

Strawfoot: Summer Weight Wool Sock Restock
Summer weight wool is pretty much the best thing you can put on your feet during the hot months. They dry super fast, are durable and you can wear them multiple days without having to wash due to excessive stank…
These Strawfoot socks are all that and they look great. Highly recommended.

Argonaut Cycles and Strawfoot: Waxed Canvas and Leather Saddle Bags
I love seeing two friends come together from opposite ends of the cycling industry to make something rad. Ben from Argonaut and Garret from Strawfoot designed a waxed canvas saddle bag together. It’s a limited run, with only 50 available. Each bag is made by hand in Santa Cruz and stamped with the Argonaut “A” logo on the strap. It’s meant to carry a spare tube, tire levers, a multi-tool and a patch kit.

Strawfoot: New Waxed Musette
Without a doubt, a musette is one of the oldest forms of on-the-bike portage. Dating back to even the early days of the Tour, “water boys” used to raid villages for bread, fruits, cigarettes, wine and water, filling these bags before handing them off to racers.
Nowadays, we use them to carry clothes, food, electronics or even around-town items. I use musettes on rides where I want to carry a camera and not have it exposed to the elements around my back. Even then, cotton musettes aren’t water resistant.
When I saw Strawfoot’s newest design when I was in Santa Cruz, I had to try one out. Waxed canvas, designed well, packable and the addition of a sternum strap made it a stylish, yet practical solution for quick, on-the-bike portage.
I like to use it on rides to carry my camera, film, food or to shed arm and leg warmers once the sun comes out. It folds up nicely and stuffs into a pocket and the sternum strap keeps it from swinging around unexpectedly.
The waxed canvas is water-resistant, not water proof, so I usually put a ultralight dry sack inside it as well if it’s going to pour. Or in our case last weekend, dump snow on us.
Each of these musettes are made from hand in Santa Cruz and take approximately a week to construct. In stock now at Strawfoot and Calfee has the pictured silver strap / orange lash option for sale.
