The FLYRS from Indonesia rode out to Anyer Vuurtoren beach recently. Back in 1885, the Dutch built a lighthouse there. I liked this photo a lot and thought it should be shared with everyone.

Saturday, March 31st and Sunday, April 1st, the FYXO Hub will be having an in-store, early registration for the 2012 Melburn Roobaix. Online registration will be the 13th of April, so jump on it. I wish I could be there this year, Lauren had a blast last year.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Loose Legs ride today. It was great meeting Brian from Denton and being able to hang with Dan from Austin and Erik from Sweden. It was a lot of climbing but everyone did great. After Jon, Dan and Erik split off, Ross, Brian and I went on to Lost Creek. At the end of the day, my Garmin pulled in 48 miles and 4,400′ of climbing. More to come once I get some film developed and I have the time to pull a Shots from the Road post together.
It’s beautiful here in Austin today, I hope everyone’s out riding!
One of the reasons why I love riding here in Austin is that I’ve got great friends to ride with. Fixed, BMX, road, whatever your preferred terrain may be, this city delivers. On a road bike, you’re missing out if you avoid the hills, just a few miles northwest of the city. Some of the my best times on my bike have been spent with Ross and Jon. This Recent Roll is dedicated, once again, to the hills!
Crand Master Flask emailed me a link to the full-length Dumpster Dive Pizza video. This is a must watch, I don’t care what kind of bike you ride.
“Unused clips, Seconds, leftovers, ABD’s and more. This is not a full feature production. This is a greasy mess…”
And if you haven’t picked up Thousand Yard Stare, do so now!

Watch out man! You’re on the wrong side of the road! Oh, wait, never mind. Brian Vernor was in Japan a few weeks back, shooting for Paved Magazine, on a story called Form and Function. You can see his article in print or catch some out takes over on his Flickr. How ’bout you do both?
Texas is hot as hell in the summer and the only way to recover from a ride is to jump into a swimming hole. Danny Puckett sent along this video of last year’s Tour de Toob ride. It starts in San Antonio and ends in New Braunfels, where everyone jumps in the water for a bit of river tubing before taking the bus back.
Even though he was in a #campvibes van during this 32 hour road trip, Damian got some incredible shots of long, winding roads, perfect for a bicycle. Armed with his Hasselblad, loaded with Portra 400NC and a nice focal length (40mm), he documented this beautiful bend in the afternoon sun. Check the rest out at Damian’s Tumblr.
Stop your grinnin’ and drop your linen! It’s time for another Loose Legs road ride for all you SxSW’rs. We’re meeting up at Frank on 4th and Colorado, this Saturday for a 9am roll out. Expect about 40 miles and 4,000′ of climbing through the Hill Country. This is a no-drop, no dickhead ride so come prepared to chat and spin up some hills. Road is recommended, but in the past, people have done it fixed.
Be there and spread the word!
Today Ross and I went on a great ride. It wasn’t crazy mileage or gnarly climbing, just a lot of fun. It’s been raining here nonstop for the past week, so we were getting a little stir crazy. We finished up at the bar, where I took this shot of a bourbon and a GSC bidon: the only way to end a ride in the endless summer that is Austin.
Also, as a reminder, you can follow my activity on Instagram, even if you don’t have an iPhone, by checking out the API at the bottom of the blog.
Here’s FTT‘s latest video, all the way from Oslo!
How stoked was I to see this on FBM’s blog today? It’s not everyday that you see a Helm of Awe Viking shirt in the wild, especially with such a rad group of dudes. Crandall wrote up something on the blog about currency and how times with your friends riding bikes is better than anything money can buy:
“Currency is typically defined as money, dollars, whathaveyou…something that represents value, something you can trade.
I just spent the past 3 weeks in a van with much of the FBM crew traveling the States, visiting friends, riding spots, meeting new friends, sharing good times, etc…
For us the price of a gallon a gas was often more than we spent on meals, eating ramen noodles, store brand soup out of a can, sleeping at friends houses, in parking lots, on the ground, in the van, on a couch.
On this trip the currency was the generosity of good people, our friends, sharing their spots, their floors, their coffee, sometimes a tube to fix a flat tire, sometimes a home cooked meal and shower, and all the time, sharing their awesomeness with us. In return all our friends asked for, without saying anything, was a smile, and a hi five, to the tune of a clicking freewheel or the click and pop of a can opening.
Thanks to everyone we caught up with, for the good times, and the reminder that one of the most valuable commodities is friendship!”
Amen brother. Check out more AWESOME photos from FBM’s recent trip here on the blog. Bummed I missed you guys!

As I said last time, It doesn’t count if you’ve got a support van following you with cameras. Ride and record yourself, otherwise, it’s no different than being supported. Andy from Fyxomatosis continues his coverage of his ride to (R)Adelaide for the Tour Down Under. Words can’t describe out incredible this looks. Well, one word does, “bugga”. Check the full post out here.
Check out this project, entitled Cycle Me Home:
“In the summer of 2011, a few film students and bike lovers decided to make a documentary movie. The original idea came from Levi, a Hungarian film student, who went to Madrid for 5 months to study, and after finishing school there, he decided to go back to Budapest on his fixie bike and asked the people of Europe to join him on his way. The journey started in July, at the European Cycle Messenger Championship, Madrid and ended at the gates of Sziget Festival, Budapest in August. Friends from film schools of Budapest, Madrid and London joined the trip to make a road-movie about the challenges and most of all the fun that Levi and the other riders had on the way to Budapest.”
Patrick Seabase continues his helmetless riding around the globe (come on, I had to!) with his recent trip to Eritrea. This is Asmawa, a story about that trip. There’s a great photo essay up on Red Bull’s site. Some of these roads look amazing. Super jealous man.
Øyvind Næss shot this night video of Anki riding through the winter slush and snow to promote his photography site. Pure Norwegian black and white videos just look so much more epic. Especially with all that snow.
How’s that for Raidô?
Chris Milliman and others are taking off on an insane, or Stoepid venture. 5 classic courses will be covered over 7 days. Check that list out! They’ll be updating their site, The Stoepidest Week periodically during their hell ride, so check back.
So, it’s been a while. Two days. You’ll have to pardom my lack of links or explanations, I’ve been busy and honestly, I have bigger fish to fry at the moment. While I compile a list of improvements and new things for you to familiarize yourself with, why don’t you check out of a few videos in the nice, cushy blog body.
Here’s the first, with more below.
