There are so many dialed-in road builds popping up these days but this is one of the most unique. Eric Estlund from Winter Bicycles sent his latest beauty over, as shot by Anthony Berano from Velo Cult. His road bike, dubbed the “Thin Iggy” can fit a 35c Resist Nomad, but has plenty of room for fenders with the 28c Nomad (shown, sans fenders). As a throwback, Eric put some compact rings on a pair of Cook Brothers cranks and a wild paint job. This is simply amazing. See the rest of Anthony’s great photographs here!

Brenton Salo: Tonic Fab Cross
Photos by Brenton Salo
I’m not sure if this particular Tonic is classified as their Magnum CX but if any of their bikes deserve to be called magnum, it’s this beast. Oversise HT, dampened wishbone stay and disks? This is a gravel-grinding, cowbell chiming good time just waiting to happen. See more details of this gorgeous example of American steel at Brenton Salo’s Flickr.

Evan’s back in Portland, where he bumped into Matchew on the street, outside Stumptown coffee. I like candid portraits and couldn’t pass this one up. Fast ‘n Loose!

Signal Cycles: Rain Bike
Oh man. I saw this on the Signal Cycles Instagram yesterday6 and was wondering when they were going to post photos. This bike is oozing with style and that box lining is sharp. Check out more at the Signal Flickr. Man, these guys are getting some love on the site this week… Must be the rainy season.

Andy’s Signal Commuter
Seeing a show bike in a booth, at a convention center is one thing but bumping into it on the street is another treat. While I was in LA, I met Andy, the owner of this beautiful robin’s egg blue Signal Cycles commuter. I had seen this bike before, at the 2012 NAHBS but being able to actually take it for a spin around the block, as I looked for a photo spot, was an honor. It really did ride like a dream and it’s been everything Andy asked for, and more.

Chrome PDX Grand Opening Party Photos
Amanda from Backyard Blam posted up a bunch of photos from the Chrome PDX Hub shop opening party. I hear some egos and elbows were bruised this night. Any bike event with an arm wrestling table is ok in my book! Check out the rest here.

Reportage
Brenton Salo at Ira Ryan Cycles
Portland has got to be home to more frame builders per mile than anywhere else in the world. It’s staggering to go down the list of talented individuals who inhabit that great city. Also calling Portland home are a few great photographers. One of which is someone who I’ve come to admire over the years. Brenton Salo is a phenomenal photographer. He effortlessly mixes digital with analog photography and much like modern, steel framebuilders, there’s an artwork to this talent.
I reached out to Brenton and asked him to document one such artisan. Ira Ryan, like Brenton, creates works of art with his hands and tools. He uses his eyes and his hands to shape perfection. His workspace, like many builders, is rich with textures, tools and hidden treasures. See for yourself as Brenton displays both digital and medium format photography below.

Chris King Visits SyCip Bicycles
Photos by Dylan VanWeelden
Kyle and Dylan have pretty sweet gigs at Chris King. All they do all day is drink coffee, visit shops and then drink beer when their caffeine buzz subsides. Ok, maybe that’s not 100% accurate but this shop visit post to the SyCip Bicycles came out great. Check out more here.

Sweatpea Bicycles: Introducing the Farmers Market
Mr. Damien Riehl makes a cameo in the newest video from Sweatpea Bicycles, featuring their newest model, the Farmers Market. Aptly named for its front-end cargo capacity and still being zippy enough to handle some road rides.
Thanks for the heads up DPow!
