Citi Bikepacking the East River

Citi Bikepacking the East River

When Alpacka Raft approached me about shooting a trip to New York, my mind started running with places upstate I had heard so much about in the past. But, that was quickly tempered as I inquired further to find out that they intended to raft the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn.

1-Up USA’s New Equip-D Double Bike Rack Review: Used, Abused and Still Clicking

Four wheelin’ and cycling are not exactly a common pairing yet this merging of two hobbies for me creates all kinds of interesting problems to solve. For instance, finding a bike rack that lives up to the same standards as my truck’s other accessories. From the roof top tent’s aluminum structure, to the steel bumpers and other body armor. I need a rack that can take a few hits and keep on tickin’… or in this case, clickin’. That’s where 1-Up USA’s newest model, the Equip-D double bike rack comes into play.

Hoot Ventures’ New Website is up!

Brian and Alicia were two of the first people I connected with when I was visiting Minneapolis a few years ago.  I was lucky enough to visit their house last summer for the piece on Delcie’s bike and Brian joined us for DFL shenanigans and even had some photos featured.  It’s been awesome watching them grow as creators.  Recently Brian decided to go full time with Hoot Ventures and redesigned their website and store.  Initially, they are offering their munchie bag in three colors, but expect more wonderful things from them in the future.

ENVE Announces a Lifetime Incident and 5-Year Limited Warranty

Perhaps you wanted a set of the G-Series wheels but were squeamish about spending a lot of money on a carbon wheelset?

Carbon fiber wheel warranties have come a long, long way. ENVE recently stepped up to the plate with a new, very impressive coverage plan. Offering a Lifetime Incident coverage package. This new warranty replaces a rim no matter what happens to it. As long as you’re the original owner. Say you break an ENVE rim and they replace it, what happens to that replacement rim? Is it warrantied? Yes! ENVE has always covered “rock strike” failure under their 5-Year Limited Warranty, now it’s just extended to the life of that rim.

Under the new Lifetime Incident, that rim will be covered for life. Even if your wheel breaks while shipping your bike, or you run over your bike with your car, or you hit a moose, anything is covered under their new Lifetime Incident warranty. There’s now second-hand coverage as well. If you break a used rim, that you bought second-hand, you’re now entitled to 30% off a new rim. Then, that replacement rim will be covered for life.

The new 5-Year Limited Warranty covers any manufacturing defects, so you can now confidently invest in carbon fiber, made in the USA rims.  Head to ENVE to read all about it.

Phil Wood’s Got the Golden Touch

Like that Bond villain, Goldfinger, Phil Wood has their own ways of plating their components for the extra bling factor, even on a component that will live out its life hidden from view, such as a bottom bracket. This bottom bracket, in particular, is built with a 103mm JIS spindle with low drag Phil spec carbonyte bearings. It’s not everyday that you see something like this, yet it’s pretty standard issue for Phil Wood to post blinged out items on their Instagram. Give them a follow if you don’t already!

Colin Strickland’s DK200 Winning Allied Able

With Lael and Rue’s exceptional DKXL piece up on the site today, I thought the DK200 winner’s bike would make for a nice addition to today’s coverage. Colin Strickland is a friend from when I lived in Texas. He used to crush the road and ‘cross races and now with his new team, Meteor x Giordana with Kevin Girkins, he’s had great success at the Belgian Waffle Ride and the DK200. Allied has an exceptional bike check up on their blog, so if you’re interested in reading about Colin’s setup, the new Allied Able, you should head on over to check it out.
