With everyone finally detoxing from CMWC, it’s great to see the first runs of film photography making it out of the processing facilities. Jake’s photos from Chicago (and the ride to Chicago) are great. A lot has changed in a year and yet, a lot remains the same. My time spent on the site has increased to 12 hour workdays, and I’m spending more and more money keeping it fresh these days. Most of that goes to film, processing and camera equipment. And all of the funding for the site comes from the ads. If it weren’t for you guys visiting and the companies supporting the site, I wouldn’t be here, doing what I love and it’s photos like these that remind me of this, every day.

These two shots were taken last year at LOW, after my Portland to SF ride and now that I’m back in Portland, a year later, I’m feeling a bit nostalgic. I guess I just want to thank everyone for another successful year at the site. I’ll keep doing my best to bring you the best content from the best builders and shops. The world has really responded well over these last 12 months and I’ll remain dedicated to the cause.

This time, last year, I was anxiously awaiting my departure to Portland for my Summer tour and over the past few weeks, I’ve been itching to get back on the road. Maybe that’s why I’ve been scouring Flickr for interesting touring photos. Which led me to a reader’s trip from earlier this summer. Ramon Jacquez rode his LOW pursuit (low pro) on the “Golden Tour“. Backpack touring is about as minimal as you can get and his photos show this was no easy task.

I highly suggest you check out the set. It’s quite nice!

Since I don’t really do any kind of bike-check posts, the only label I could think that would be appropriate for this is Reader’s Rides. Plus it mixes it up from the normal track bike we see in that tag. Kareem’s been in the FGFS scene for as long as just about anyone. His recent relocation from Atlanta to Seattle, landed him in the middle of a great group of people, including Jake Ricker. There have been a few events over the past few months that I’ve really wanted to attend. The Beast of the East being one of them. I really wanted to ride along with the guys and document this messenger stage race to the 2012 NACCC and I haven’t seen a whole lot of photos from the event. That was until Chris emailed me a link to his Tumblr. Check the rest out here!

I scooped this one off Affinity’s blog. Sinda Jukka is a long-time Affinity supporter and he just sent Jason these photos from an afternoon at the track, where the locals raced to celebrate 60 years of the Käpylä Olympic Velodrome in Helsinki.

Back when Chas had hair and Crihs wasn’t fat, they hit up Douglass St. with the Full Frame Collective and Werehaus guys. Terry got this shot of Chas, getting so pitted and it just makes me smile. For more entertainment, hit up the video from Douglass St. below.

The northwest offers up some superb riding, best tackled via touring or credit card touring. The long, arduous days clear the mind and purge all weight that found itself on your shoulders. Sandy Carson, Taj Mihelich and Seth Holton have an excellent Photogallery up on Defgrip from their recent tour. You’ve gotta check it out! As a side note: Taj did this on his Weekender, a great 1×10 “light tourer”.

When I think of JP Weigle‘s work from the mid to late 80’s, this is the livery I associate with it. Bright, vibrant colors that are classic and yet still very modern. Jake recently acquired this bike off eBay and I’ve been nagging him to take photos of it. Of course he built it up with Campy Chorus 10 and Shamals, which really set the bike off. I don’t think this photo could get any more dialed, just like Tom’s legit as hell  360 from the Chicago video. Rick, he’s perfectly centered on that wall. Well done man!

I gotta say, I am so proud of Tony Fast. He’s been one of my longest-running friends since I’ve been running this site and after graduating last year, Doctor Tony Fast is now residing in Cali. He came down to LA to hang out with all of us when we were in town and the dude is looking good. The funny thing about cycling and age is you tend to lose weight, while the rest of your friends just get fat…

As he’s lost weight, he’s gained a great eye for photography, which is why I love his Disposable series so much. He had his camera in LA and posted some shots up on his Flickr, which I’ve embedded below. Enjoy!
