A Long-Term Review of the 1UP USA Recon 5 Bike Rack and RakAttach 2.0

In early 2022, Wisconsin-based bike rack manufacturer 1UP USA purchased Recon Racks and began offering the Recon 5 and Recon 6 for, you guessed it, carrying five and six bikes respectively on a single vehicle. With attractive features such as no frame/fork contact with the rack, off-road rating, Smooth Pivot recline, and accommodation for a variety of tire and bike sizes, our interest was piqued. Josh has been testing a Recon 5 for the better part of a year, taking it everywhere from Arizona’s remote forest roads to local shuttle runs and cross-country road trips. 1UP also recently redesigned their RakAttach swing-out adapter, which Josh has been using in tandem with the Recon. Continue reading below for a full rundown on these new offerings from 1UP…

1-Up USA’s Patriotic Racks Benefit NICA

1-Up, the maker of the best bike rack on the market, got patriotic with its latest release. These red, white, and blue-anodized racks are only available in the 2″ Super Duty Single and Double models.

Pat yourself on the back if you do pick one of these up because proceeds from any 1UP USA patriotic items will be donated to the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), an American nonprofit organization promoting high school mountain-biking programs in the United States.

Unfortunately, these are only available for 1-Up newsletter subscribers due to their limited numbers. If you’d like to order one, you can contact 1-Up directly.

1-Up USA’s New Equip-D Double Bike Rack Review: Used, Abused and Still Clicking

Four wheelin’ and cycling are not exactly a common pairing yet this merging of two hobbies for me creates all kinds of interesting problems to solve. For instance, finding a bike rack that lives up to the same standards as my truck’s other accessories. From the roof top tent’s aluminum structure, to the steel bumpers and other body armor. I need a rack that can take a few hits and keep on tickin’… or in this case, clickin’. That’s where 1-Up USA’s newest model, the Equip-D double bike rack comes into play.

An Ode to the 1-Up Rack

An Ode to the 1-Up Rack

While not everyone needs a bike rack, or even a car, plenty of people out there rely on their automobiles to transport their bicycle or bicycles to a cycling destination. Here in California, it’s easy to hop in your car and be transported to a completely different environment within a few hours, sometimes even fast enough to get in a good pedal before sundown.

Over the years, I’ve used just about every mainstream market bike rack. While they all do the job, only one excels. The 1-Up Rack is hands down the best bicycle rack on the market and the fact that it’s made in the USA is an added bonus. I’ve been using mine for over a year now and while it pinched my pockets upon purchasing, I have no regrets.
