Patrick Seabase continues his helmetless riding around the globe (come on, I had to!) with his recent trip to Eritrea. This is Asmawa, a story about that trip. There’s a great photo essay up on Red Bull’s site. Some of these roads look amazing. Super jealous man.
Patrick Seabase has bombed some iconic mountains before on his brakeless track bike, but his newest video features a place that I had never heard of before:
“Do you know of Eritrea? If so you’re quite an exception. Most people have never heard of it, let alone know where to find it on the world map. So why then would an inadvertent figurehead of the global fixed gear scene travel there? Two reasons apply to Patrick Seabase. Firstly, Eritrea is a mountainous country with some spectacular roads. Secondly, it has a rich cycling tradition that is as yet mainly undiscovered.
ASMAWA is not just a film about “Euro-boy” riding brakeless down a mountain road in Africa. It is more the story of a pure-hearted athlete who discovers a new world – not least within himself.”
I like the back-story and talking heads in the trailer but I wanna see some climbing in this one. Can’t wait to watch the whole video.

From one use of the fixed drivetrain to the other comes some new stuff from Patrick Seabase. Ian White of Cutterskink got the opportunity to film Patrick as he bombed the infamous Grimsel Pass. All the talk about bombing hills seems muted at the moment… Damn. Head over to Cutterskink for the full story!
Seabase is back, ascending mountains on his fixed gear. The latest video tackles Oahu and was shot on a Red Monstro 8K with Zeiss Supreme Prime 21mm and Zeiss Supreme Prime 85mm lenses.
I feel like Patrick Seabase is always a few steps ahead of me in terms of travel and cycling destinations. I’ve wanted to go to Morocco for so long and now, this video just ups the ante.

In January 2015 Patrick Seabase explored the volcanic island in the atlantic ocean on his track bike (ratio 47/17). Preparing himself for an upcoming project – he covered 12000m of altitude throughout 25 hours of freeriding within 6 days.”

Patrick Seabase tackles two of his favorite descents in the Swiss Alps, the Grande-Dixence and Col du Sanetsch for Fabric.
It’s been a while since Patrick Seabase put out a video but it was worth the wait. The climb is serene and shit gets real around the 4:30 mark. Black metal and track bikes will always get a rise out of me. Well done man.

we set off very early at 4am, grabbing a free breakfast on the way at a mountain hotel… (just say you’re staying in room 11 and it normally works)
We were looking through photographs making the selection for Fixed 08, when we found a random shot of a supply road leading to the top of the mountain island, by the dam. Patrick had not attempted this descent before, as it is off the main road and normally he rides the 30km straight down without stopping. The surface of the supply road was super sketchy, pitted with pot holes, uneven cobble stones and crumpled tarmac making it almost impossible for him to control skidding… it was good fun and we hope you will like the end result.
