Otso’s Waheela C Gets New Paint and Spec Upgrades for 2020

While we all dream about gravel races, bikepacking trips, and riding our favorite trails during road trips, the bike releases keep rolling out for all of us to enjoy these days. At least from the comfort of our home and personal devices. Otso’s lineup is impressive and their flagship gravel bike, the Waheela C, received a new look with new paint colors and graphics, as well as upgraded build spec options for 2020.

The Waheela C is available as a frame, fork, and headset for $2,550, or as a complete bike with Shimano GRX for $3,600. Find it on OtsoCycles.com.

The Waheela C’s details:
-Adjustable wheelbase: our patented Tuning Chip rear dropout system allows the wheelbase to be lengthened or shortened by up to 20mm and the bottom bracket height to be raised or lowered by 4mm. This allows the Waheela C to transform from a confident, stabile gravel bike (in the rear Tuning Chip position) to a nimble, agile option for CX races or local trails with tight corners.
-Giant tire clearance: this bike can fit 700c x 53mm, 650b x 53mm, or 29” x 2.1” tires. It’s a quick bike for racing gravel with a 700c x 35mm setup, and it’s been SO much fun riding snowy townie trails with 27.5” x 2.2” tires over the winter.
-EPS-molded carbon frame: it’s a lightweight bike that’s ready for a quick climb up the next punchy hill or sprinting away from the lead group.
-Inspired geometry: the rider is centered over the wheels for extra confidence and stability, while the longer top tube adds an aggressive, racy feel. Meanwhile, bowed seat stays make for a compliant rear triangle that’ll absorb bumps in the road and give you comfort while you’re spending all day on the saddle.

That ideology is embodied in their newest frame, the Waheela all road. While marketed as a ‘gravel race’ bike, there’s nothing keeping this bike from being a quiver killer, even for those who don’t race. Bikepack on it, use it as your road bike, and much more. Titanium Touring Perfection: Singular Gryphon Drop Bar 29er MTB Review

Over the years, I’ve had the ability and privilege of throwing my leg over a number of fat tire, drop bar touring bikes. From the almighty Tumbleweed Stargazer to the readily available Kona Sutra ULTD, these robust bikes with an off-road and load-bearing geometry make for great interstitial, genre-bending machines for all sorts of riding.

Yet before brands like Salsa were even making high clearance, drop bar, 29er, disc brake, production touring bikes, a brand called Singular Cycles in the UK shifted the paradigm with its Swift in 2007 and, later in 2008, Gryphon models. These frames featured high stack numbers, fit big tires, and most importantly, had rack/fender/cargo bosses aplenty.

This year, Singular debuted its custom Gryphon Titanium, and once again, I’m questioning which bike to crown “best in class.” Check out my full-length review below…

Arrowhead 135 is a race that evokes superlatives: coldest, most extreme, most brutal. Routine sub-zero conditions encountered on the 135 miles of Northern Minnesota snowmobile trails tests riders like few other races in North America. Some bikes are just too good to get rid of. Or too sentimental, or broken, or otherwise a purely “eye of the be(er)holder” sort of thing. This Soma B-Side is that bike for me. It has lived its life as many different bikes. For a long time, it was built up as a new/old school Montana singletrack shredder, with a 2x drivetrain (gasp!), 660mm bars (double gasp!), a short fork and no dropper. It lived a few months as a 26+ singlespeed when I found a pair of Nokian Gazzalodi tires in some back room of Free Cycles.
