Crihs and His Continuum Track

Crihs is in town for the NAHBS and yesterday he and I did a bit of off-roading in the Greenbelt trails. When he told me he was only bringing his track bike, I knew he’d have a blast here but I also hesitated when I took him to the trails. Luckily for him, riding in NYC traffic, riding across the country on his track bike and winning Monster Track helps out when you’re navigating rock gardens. Halfway through the trails, we stopped to take a few photos of his Continuum track bike at the swimming hole.

COG Magazine: Two Years Ago

Two years ago, COG Magazine was at the NAHBS in Indianapolis, where they stood before this Cherubim track bike. This year, they’ll be standing in front of many bikes in the great city of Austin and if I have my way with Kevin, he’ll never forget this weekend!

Bishop Bikes: Montagne’s Stainless Track Bike

Just because Portland framebuilders have forgotten about the track bike, doesn’t mean it needs saving. Chris Bishop‘s work is hands down, some of the nicest work to come out of the States in recent years. I know I jock him all the time but damn, this guy has the entire package down to an art!

I cannot wait to see what Bishop is bringing to the 2011 NAHBS. Check out some more photos of Montagne’s stainless track bike below!

Brian Vernor’s Making Blog

I’m going to be really honest here for a second. I get a lot of emails and with NAHBS approaching, the number has tripled. It takes me two hours each morning to go through them. So when I get an email from someone asking where to get massive prints made for a booth at NAHBS, I don’t even look to see who it’s from. It sucks, but it’s true.

Then last night, I met up with up with people from Colorado, some friends from NYC and Brian Vernor from Santa Cruz. That’s when Brian sparked my memory. He was the one who asked where to get photos printed. I felt like such a jackass. How could I not have looked at who sent the email? Brian’s photos are phenomenal and the dude is so down to earth.

If you’re unfamiliar with Brian’s work, he shoots a lot of Rapha‘s photography and his recent entries vary from his recent trip to NYC to Rapha’s Continental series. If you don’t follow Brian’s blog, you should!

A Girl and Her Bike: Lauren and Her Cinelli Vigorelli

Lauren’s a sweetheart. She’s one of the girls here who’s always at every event and has a great attitude towards riding and life in general. Recently, she recovered from a nasty accident where a car hit her, totaling her bike and sending her into the hospital. But that didn’t stop her. After physical therapy, she’s back on her bike.

I took photos of Lauren and her Cinelli Vigorelli yesterday.Check them out below!

Recent Roll: On Food Trucks – Lucky J’s and Old School BBQ & Grill

In this Recent Roll I shot some photos of two food trucks here on the East side of Austin. The first is this giant chicken by Lucky J‘s chicken and waffles and the second is the Old School BBQ & Grill school bus. Both of these are great eating but the Old School BBQ has the best burger in Austin. They use prime rib meat in it and it’s to die for! When you’re here for the 2011 NAHBS, don’t eat at the convention, head east on 6th street. You can’t miss it!

All-City: Mr. Pink Road Bike

You know why I like Jeff from All-City so much? It’s because he names his products after things we grew up loving. Whether it’s the Nature Boy or, more recently Mr. Pink, you can tell the guy has a great sense of humor. If I have to explain the reference for Mr. Pink, I’ll shoot out your kneecaps.

This past weekend at Frostbike, Jeff unveiled his Mr. Pink (uhhh). It’s the new All-City road bike and I think it’s the best looking bike yet! You bringing this with you to NAHBS Jeff?

Bishop Bikes: Joe Bell Painted Horton Town Bike

I have a feeling that Chris Bishop is going to be breaking necks the entire weekend at the 2011 NAHBS. Granted, it’s just a feeling but with previews like this, who’s gonna argue with me? Remember those elegantly-carved head tube lugs I posted before? That was just a preview of the Horton Town Bike that Bishop was building. Here’s a preliminary photo showing the master painter, Joe Bell‘s work.

For a detailed, in-progress photo of Joe Bell’s masking, check out one more photo below.
