Man oh man. Now that’s a bike fit for some off-road action. But it does bring up a rather hot topic as of late: disk brakes on road bikes? Personally, when it’s on a bike like this, I love them but a racing road bike? Not so much. Firefly Bicycles, once again, building sexy and sometimes controversial bikes!

Firefly Bicycles: New Bikes Online
This really should go without saying but if there was an award for best-documented framebuilding company, it’d go to Firefly. Last year’s bicycles littered the front page of this site almost weekly and to keep it going in 2012, they just upped a few more frames and builds to their Gallery Page.

Firefly Bicycles: MonsterCross
In the time they’ve been around, Firefly has created some rather controversial bicycles and this MonsterCross has got to take the cake. The guys describe this beast as:
“A blend of spankin’ new and N.O.S. vintage parts coupled with an aesthetic sensitivity to the era of the early 90’s XC mountain bikes crossed with practical fit and modern amenities.”
Yikes! Check out more at Mister Danger Pants.

Firefly Bicycles: Towering Head Tube
Sometimes, it’s not the head tube that’s long, it’s the perspective. Seriously, I am killing myself every time Tyler posts up photos to the Firefly Blog. Framebuilders take note: get a photographer in your studio once a week…

Firefly Bicycles: Di2 Titanium Dirt Road
Jamie from Firefly needed an off-road, speed machine for last monty’s D2R2 in the Boston area. What he came up with is one unique bird. But that’s Firefly‘s m.o. right? Clearance for bigger tires, a 42×28 mtb crankset and a 11-25 cassette make this road bike an ideal tool for tackling the 9,000’ of dirt elevation found in the 180k Deerfield Dirt-Road Randonnée. I think the size of the frame makes the proportions of the drivetrain work in this case. Personally, I’d rather have a compact front and a long cage derailleur in the back.
