To wrap up our Year in Review posts, here are the picks for the 2024 Radavist Product Awards.

Radical Atavism is all about telling stories, and we love to tell stories about the people who bring unique color and character to the world of cycling. Reportage is where our passion lies – but sometimes along the way, we get to try out and test a lot of innovative bikes and bike-related products. We pour our creative energy into our reviews and over the years, we’ve established a reputation for publishing thoughtful and well-researched opinions on products.

This year, we found flaws, offered our unvarnished takes, and fell in love with a lot of products, all while deciphering the world of bikes we know and love. Some of these products deserve some extra recognition as we bid adieu to 2024.

The Radavist’s 2024 Photographic Year in Review is how we celebrate this year’s visual achievements. In compiling this massive gallery it helps us reflect on our team’s hard work from the past twelve months, while acting as motivation for the year ahead.

Wow! What a year it’s been. In the past twelve months, we’ve shot roughly 300 bikes. From gravel races, to NAHBS, the Philly Bike Expo and our normal travels, we really captured some unique builds and we’ve got a good handle on the bikes the readers of the Radavist enjoy checking out based on some key metrics.

Every year we try to do our best to sort through twelve months of archives to narrow down to this list. The first filter is the comment count, which we start at 50 comments. Then comes page views, with the minimum number being 20,000 views. Finally, we look at the social media chatter; including Instagram comments and how many times was the post shared across various platforms.

What we end up with is a list that is filled with a plethora of interesting, versatile, and quirky bikes. The only editorial decision I myself made was to omit reviews of stock bikes. So no Santa Cruz Stigmata or Cannondale Topstone this round!

At the end of each year comes a state of reflection over here at the Radavist. One where I look back at all the imagery created over the previous twelve months and begin to compile a visual catalog of this site’s many narratives. From Peru to Pennsylvania, the autodidact raconteurs who contribute to the Radavist do a damn fine job at documenting their lives, experiences and the people who make this tight community come alive.

This year, I attempted and failed at the year in review post multiple times. For some reason, the linear narrative felt too contrived, too forced. The content, or photographs rather, wanted to live on their own to tell their own tales and come alive once again. In the internet era, moments are often lost to the ephemeral experience of web publishing, which is why I find galleries like this so important to not only this website in particular but our community as a whole.

Please enjoy these photos, these vignettes into each photographer’s life experiences. Bear no mind to the captions, since altering those would in turn, alter their original Reportage. Instead use them to jump-start your mind, perhaps driving you to search back through the archives.
