2012 SSCXWC in Los Angeles

Beginning any race with a LeMans start is sure to cause a ruckus, but add in a real life “cycling salmon” and things get interesting. This year’s SSCXWC began with a bang. Both the men’s and women’s field showed that you can truly have fun and still be somewhat competitive. From the snot rocket cannons, to the cesspool pit and even the crowd-induced bottle necked course, the racers had to endure a lot more than they bargained for. Oh and mud in SoCal? The cross gods smiled upon LA last Sunday. See for yourself in the gallery.

The 2012 SSCXWC Winners: Adam Craig and Mical Dyck

Adam Craig won the men’s and Mical Dyck won the women’s 2012 SSCXWC. That means one thing: tattoos. Last night, at the The Martlet Tattoo Parlor in Hollywood, they did just that.

Chrome’s Sub Floor Circuit by Brenton Salo

Last weekend, Chrome threw a circuit race in an empty office floor above their PDX store. It looked amazing but unfortunately, I couldn’t make it out to Portland again this month. So when Brenton Salo said he was going to be shooting it, I reached out to him to get some photos. He was stoked on his TL-200 Contax flash for his G2 and fired away all night.

The Best Red Hook Crit Milano Video Yet

I like seeing sprint finishes at the Red Hook Crit, even if sometimes you’ve gotta go to Milano to see one. Because there were no sprints for the gold at Red Hook Crit Brooklyn last year!

The Speedvagen Tank

Ok, if I asked you what kind of car a Portland-based frame builder would drive to cross races, the last thing you’d guess is an armored truck. You know, the kind that people drop loads of money off to banks with? Yeah, gun openings, plated steel, bullet-proof glass. The whole works. I think it’s awesome that Speedvagen takes this beast to cross races. After I got done shooting Tom’s Speedvagen, he gave me a tour of the Speedvagen tank.

I can’t think of a better way to spend my last day in Portland than to watch and photograph Cross Crusade. There aren’t many times that I get to venture into a muddy cross course and everything I’ve heard of Portland cyclocross is indeed true. It was a muddy, fast time with a great turn out. Next week, Mash and Rapha are throwing two events worth hitting up if you’re in SF. The first is the Cutty Cross Cat (flier below) and the second event is All Chips on the Table: The Bicycle Art & Design of Garrett Chow, which will be at the Rapha Cycle Club, post race. I wish I could be in attendance. This looks like a rad time.

The 2012 Fijate Alleycat and Criterium

Last month, in Puerto Rico, the PR Fixed community threw a giant event called Fijate. Riders from both coasts came out to compete, party and soak in the endless summer sun of the Carribean. Red Hook Criterium Milano Video

Here’s the first Red Hook Crit Milano video I’ve found on Vimeo or Youtube that’s worth posting. It catches some spills at that turn everyone was complaining about as well as the final moments in the race, leading up to the finish sprint, which I still haven’t seen any video of. Who’s got it?
