It’s rare that I get a boring text from Dan Timmerman. When he asked me if I would be interested in a 24 hour mountain bike race I figured he was mostly joking and not really expecting me to be interested in that sort of thing. He later admitted this to be true. Although I have to admit that Dan’s assessment of my level of interest was probably correct normally. I guess he just caught me on a weird day and so we started working out the details…

The Night Bison Approacheth

This looks like a wild, wild ride.

“The Night Bison will run for the third time on August 31st, leaving the back lot of NCC at Civil Twilight and winding through 55mi of every terrain possible. For us at Axletree, this is a fun one. They’re all fun. They’re all for fun. But this one is different. It has a neat feel to it that separates it from our other events. And they’re pizza. And posters.

This year, we collaborated with the talented and kind Mr. Jake Early of Tucson, AZ. Jake became a faraway friend of NCC and Axletree when he surprised us with a run of prints earlier this year. We threw out the idea of working together to create a run of Jake’s beautiful serigraph prints to promote and celebrate the event. Our napkin art was slid (emailed) across the table (across the country) last month, and he sent us his print design this week.”

Hilly Billy Roubaix

This looks great! Here’s the back-story from CX Hairs:

“It’s not really a documentary, not really a short film, but somewhere in between. Here’s a video I produced covering the Hilly Billy Roubaix, a 72 mile race that takes place on some of the nastiest roads in West Virginia. Started in 2010, the Hilly Billy Roubaix is a classic. Part of the Ultra Cross series, the Hilly Billy is a tough mud, dirt, grass, gravel, road race with a ton of climbing. Sounds fun, right?”

Nice.

Although it’s far from the spartan life of East Berlin, living in the west part of town is not always easy. The instability in world politics is constantly reminding the citizens of how vulnerable their city is. West Berliners stoically maintain a spirit of normality in their isolation. Their celebrations and manifestations of life before the wall serve as rituals that keep the absurdity of the surrounded city at bay…

2014 Wolfpack Hustle Civic Center Video

Last night I rolled out to the 2014 Wolfpack Hustle Civic Center Crit to shoot some photos, hang out and see what it was all about. I’d never been to a Wolfpack event before, so it was all new to me. Having said that, this video captures the vibes quite well.

Don’t miss that podium scene and Erin’s unfortunate collision with a champagne bottle!

This was part one of three among the events for this year’s All City Championships.

At 6:30 pm racers gathered at a place called Hobo Camp in west Minneapolis.

Jeff Frane from All-City and his race team, Fulton Racing put together a great course ranging from a little mud section, spiraling pedestrian ramps, rail road track barriers, single track leading into a pump track section and a gnarly climb up. I’m calling it a climb up instead of a run up because racers literally had to climb up a mountain of dirt every lap!

At the end, Bandit Cross favorites Fulton racing took a podium sweep in both gender categories.

Parties. That’s what Minneapolis is all about come the summer months and I’m not talking about the “take over the bar with 20 of your friends and sing happy birthday” kind of celebration. What partying is, to me anyway, is grabbing a case of beer or a bottle, booking around town, hitting trails, sitting in a park and taking a dive in a body of water, nude, after the sun has gone down.

In the midwest, that’s the way of life come the Summer Solstice and in Minneapolis, the All City Championships mark the height of such activities…

See You at the Melburn Roobaix

Tomorrow I’m heading out for another dose of Australia to document the Melburn Roobaix for FYXO. I know there are a bunch of events happening while I’m there, like this party and other rides, so if you’re planning on being in Melbourne, I’ll see ya there.

I’ll have plenty of products with me to hand out, so don’t be shy (of course you won’t be, you’re Australian)…
