Special Edition PAUL Somethin’ Somethin’ For the Radavist

Over in Chico, Travis from PAUL had an idea, inspired from a certain band from the 80’s and wanted to do a fun product for the readers of this website. Splatter ano, like this band, had its heyday in the 1980’s and without giving you a direct link, if you search for the band’s name this color combination represents, it’ll take you to a special page where you can pick one of these special Somethin’ Somethin’ up.

We’ll give you two hints. The first being: this band was formed by two brothers, who were born in the Netherlands and moved to Pasadena, California in the early 60’s. The second: two lead singers were prominent during this band’s lifespan, which continues today.

If you head to PAUL and add in the answer to the search bar, it’ll take you straight to the product. For whatever reason, y’all can’t figure this out, express your concern in the comments…

SORRY TO ALL YOU VAN HALEN FANS, THESE ARE SOLD OUT!

Paul Component Engineering: 35mm Shorty Box Stem

In the world of modern mountain bikes, shorter stems are usually better, and that’s the motivation for Paul Component’s newest version of the Box Stem. These made in Chico stems now come in a 35mm length and weigh only 118grams. They’re in stock now at Paul. I can’t wait to put one on my mountain bike and on my touring bike.

Scotty 2 Hotty and His MUSA Nishiki

Scotty 2 Hotty is a local staple here in Los Angeles. He’s what I like to call an autodidactic raconteur or a self-taught man with lots of informative ramblings. For those of you who have ventured into Golden Saddle Cyclery, you’ll probably recognize him as a patron of the bike shop and literal sponge of knowledge. While Scotty is a farmer and a consultant for soil nutrition, his passions in life exist far beyond the liveliness of plants. His favorite subjects include but are not limited to fishing, gliders, obscure bicycle parts, firearms, fishing, boating, Shimano, both reels, and bicycles.

A Pre-Ride Preview of Industry’s Nine’s New i9.35 Disc Road Wheels

When it comes to photographing bikes, I’ll always opt for dirty over clean, but some things are just too damn good to wait for that all-so-familiar Southern California gold dirt to cake itself inside every crevice. Case in point: Industry Nine’s new i9.35 Disc road wheels. Previously, we’ve looked at their AR25 disc road wheels, which are still some of the best disc wheels I’ve ridden*. However, if you’re looking to shave a little bit of weight, add the durability of carbon rims, and better aerodynamics, then the i9.35 wheels are another great option in the marketplace. Let’s take a look at them in detail below.

Industry Nine Debuts their TRAIL 270 24 HOLE 27.5″ MTB Wheels

New year, new you and new wheels to boot.

Over the years, I’ve been more than impressed with Industry Nine’s wheel offerings and with each release, they keep getting better. Their latest wheelset offering are the Trail 270 wheels, which come in a 24 hole drilling and 27.5″ diameter. These are made in North Carolina at i9’s HQ and are tuned for your all mountain / race / enduro / shred sled. They have a rider limit of 210lbs, so they’re not for the big boys, but with a 27mm inner width, they’ll hold onto a fat tire to keep your rubber side down, or up, if that’s your thing. Check out more specs at Industry Nine.

Eric’s Stinner Frameworks Romero ‘Cross

Reportage

Eric’s Stinner Frameworks Romero ‘Cross

Our thoughts go out to everyone in California who have lost their homes, their businesses and their local trails to these ravenous fires. The boys down in Goleta, a small town outside of Santa Barbara, at Stinner Frameworks were lucky. Real lucky. I don’t think anyone needs to remind them of that. With the Thomas fire reigning in heat, as California’s second largest fire on record, the shop at Stinner was busy preparing their own fire. This Romero frameset was hand-delivered to the Cub House last Friday so that Eric would be able to spend his Holiday break riding the mountains of Los Angeles.

As part of Stinner’s “The Collection,” this magenta and cyan coat was done in-house at Stinner, at no additional charge. These “stock” paint options usually offer a bright, colorful option, paired with a more subdued variant. This year’s other option is a matte desert tan and grey paint job, similar to the livery on the Stinner Hardtail I reviewed earlier this year.

Eric’s choice in build kit on this stock-sizing Romero features a Deda F-64 DB fork, which offered me something different to document, in what is usually a sea of ENVE forks. He also chose a KMC chain to match the paint, along with a combination of silver and gunmetal components like Onyx Hubs and a Chris King Headset, with a Paul stem. My favorite, perhaps unintended matching bit is the SRAM Force protective film on the rear derailleur. I couldn’t bring myself to pulling that off, though.
