Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic damage to Asheville and surrounding communities in western North Carolina in late September. More recent events have displaced the aftermath of this devastating storm in the news, but the rebuilding is only beginning. Buildings and roads are destroyed, more than 5,000 North Carolinians are still without power, and residents of Asheville still have to boil their drinking water. Wanting to help, Rene Herse reached out to Hailey Moore to help out with a fundraiser effort.

Hailey and her partner Anton Krupicka had already been working on an event in the area most affected by Hurricane Helene. They are now putting those efforts behind the Old Fort Endurance Strong Festival, a fundraising effort hosted by local organizations to rebuild the community. For the next 48 hours, we will donate 100% of the proceeds of Bicycle Quarterly subscriptions and sales of past editions to this fundraising effort. Read Hailey’s story and sign up to help out at Rene Herse.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the event and race company Tanawha Adventures has been moving fast to raise relief funds for those affected in Western North Carolina. The just-announced Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival is a 6-, 12-, or 24-hour mountain biking and running event set for December 7, 2024, with aims of raising two million dollars to help the local community rebuild. As we shared last week in our Roundup, Ryan Wilson was mugged in Colombia and the thieves took his camera, laptop, and more. Ryan is currently raising money by selling some of his most famous images on Darkroom. Head on over to see his wonderful work and if you can, buy some of his prints. We’re working on aiding Ryan but this will help kickstart his efforts in replacing his stolen property.

Earlier this fall we featured Fergus Tanaka’s touching story about Ben Frederick‘s fundraiser with Love your Brain, a non-profit organization that advocates for traumatic brain injury relief and recovery. Ben is also raffling off one of his custom Ritchey Swiss Cross frames. We’re bumping this today in hopes of elevating Ben’s raffle and getting more eyes on this project. The raffle runs through the end of this year and tickets for the frame and other prizes can be purchased from Ben’s website. Check out some more photos below!

Lachlan Morton announced on his Instagram Wednesday morning that he’ll be auctioning off the jersey he wore for the entirety of this summer’s Alt-Tour, his solo transit of the Tour de France route, which he rode ahead of the peloton and completed the entire TdF route.

Lachlan plans to donate the proceeds from the auction to Pedaling Minds, a Louisville, CO-based organization that works in schools to teach students collaborative thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and coordination through a program designed to build self-confidence, using bikes as tools for learning.

Los Angeles Bicycle Academy (LABA) is an organization that believes the sport of cycling can change the trajectory of young peoples’ lives. Today we are launching a funding initiative with the goal of raising $300,000, in order to further develop our program to help underserved youth (ages 8-18) develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.
