If you have a classic steel bike with a 1″ steerer, then you know how hard it is to run a modern 31.8 bar on it. Caletti Cycles looks to remedy that, with their VTM Quill Stem. Available in 90mm-120mm lengths and in stock now at Caletti.

Don’t Call it a Cross Bike: the Caletti Scrambler Flat Bar City Shredder
Ok, maybe you can call it a ‘cross bike, because that’s truly what it is at its roots. Before we get ahead of ourselves here, let’s take a step back. There are stigmas attached with the words “commuter” “city” “townie” and even “cross” bike. There are certain checklists that apply to each of those permutations. The most notable being fender and rack provisions. Even with the latter, “cross” purists want drop bars and 32mm tires for a bike to be true to its UCI roots. This bike has no provisions for racks or fenders, is sold with a 40mm tire, flat bars and a bell. It’s not as much as it is. It is whatever you want it to be.

2016 NAHBS: Jeremiah Kille Caletti Road
John Caletti‘s custom titanium machines are always a pleasure to shoot and this road bike is the prize of his booth at NAHBS. He reached out to Jeremiah Kille to hand draw all over the frame, fork, stem, and even commissioned him to design matching bar tape. It didn’t end there. If you check out the Caletti Instagram, you’ll see the matching Giro shoes and helmet too!
At a show where over the top paint jobs reign supreme, it’s nice seeing someone take this approach to frame embellishment…

Caletti Giro Grinduro Edition Titanium Cyclocross Bike
October will be here before you know it and with it, comes Grinduro, a different kind of bike race. After my pre-ride photoshoot, one thing became evident: the best rig for this race is a cross bike. Don’t even try to ride a road bike, because you’ll be walking and if you ride a MTB, you might clock in a better time on the descents, but there’s a 25 mile climb.
When Giro announced the Grinduro, Santa Cruz framebuilder John Caletti of Caletti Cycles began working on a cyclocross bike for the event. With bent seat stays, clearances for a 40mm tire, disc brakes and no-rattle housing, this bike is the ideal weapon for a day filled with Sierra Nevada gravel and crag.
My favorite detail on this frame in particular however is the Geoff McFetridge artwork. The evil mountain awaits and Grinduro is coming… Best get your rig ready.
