Panniers can be an interesting pickle for bag designers. With so many racks out on the market, being flexible in terms of mounting is of the utmost importance. With their new Microwave Panniers, they have solved that problem, creating a cradle pannier which holds onto individual dry bags. The system itself is secure, adaptable, modular, and practical, as all panniers should be. Bedrock Bags makes bicycle portage out of Durango, Colorado including saddle, frame, bar, and hip packs. New to their lineup are these Hermosa UL panniers, an ultralight solution for those who prefer panniers over stuff sacks and the like. How light? Well they weigh under 1.5 pounds for the set. These aren’t necessarily designed for rough and rowdy singletrack bikepacking, but can be a helpful companion on a multi-surface tour.

Outer Shell has been putting out some truly innovative products since Kyle first began the brand, including my favorite on the bike camera bag and now, these new Pico Panniers, which utilize a unique mounting system are sure to be a hit. Path Less Pedaled takes an up close and personal look at these new bags.

Portland’s North Street Bags introduces their Morrison Backpack Panniers. Commuting or even touring can be made easier with these bags, which transform from a secure, waterproof pannier to a backpack in a few seconds. Porcelain Rocket’s line of bikepacking and touring bags continues to grow and improve upon itself. Intended for rear-racks only, these bags are perfect for commuting or when you need just a little more room for those longer expeditions.

Products that are designed to work within a system, but also operate just fine on their own are crucial to a brand. What if I don’t want to use your company’s rack? No problem. To make her Tokyo Fixed Dream Machine Cargo complete, Lauren really wanted a rear rack and panniers. Now I know I push the handmade in the USA thing a lot here but what I really care about are quality products made by people who give a damn about what they’re doing. When I met Shane from Laplander at the Philly Bike Expo, I was very impressed with these City Panniers.

Laplander makes all their bags in Philadelphia and I opted for the waxed cotton model for Lauren. After a few weeks of use, she loves them. Matched with the Wald rack and they add a whole new level of simplicity to her daily routine.
