You and Your Music

Alan from Melbourne shared with me this hip hop video. Here’s a background:

“I’m a melbourne courier/occasional filmmaker seeking some exposure for a video i just directed. Its for an independent melbourne hip-hop group called You and Your Music, their lead MC Adam King is a courier and the track is a bit of an ode to our chosen profession.

The vid is entirely funded by the band, produced by local independent filmmakers, directed by a courier and features two of Melbourne’s finest pushie pilots in the starring roles. You might recognize one of em. As well as that it got massive support from our courier community, many of whom pop up in it.”

You guys better get your fill of hip hop today, it’s Tuesday Teardown time tomorrow!

Burning Witch Box Set

This marks probably the 10th time I’ve purchased something Burning Witch-related. Over the last ten years, I’ve bought numerous CD releases and a few t-shirts from this Seattle doom band. I first heard them in highschool and couldn’t get over how intense their music was. In fact, it’s one of those bands whose work can’t be appreciated on anything other than vinyl. Which is why when Southern Lord announced they finally got the Burning Witch 4xLP and DVD set together, I sprung for it.

Review: Dopefight – Buds

“Baby Goat Sick” from Buds

Everyone pick up your bongs, no, fuck that throw your bongs. The weed you’re smoking ain’t good enough for DOPEFIGHT! When I first saw the name of this band, I chuckled to myself uncontrollably. I thought for sure it was a joke. Low and behold it wasn’t and their first LP, Buds is more than I bargained for. Sit back, crack a bowl and break open Buds.

Stoner doom seems like it’d be an easy genre to master and yet so many bands just ruin my buzz. Dopefight’s got it down though. “Baby Goat Sick” and “Leviathan’s Burp” open up this 13-track LP and before you can spark that bowl, you’re nodding your head and closing your eyes. The chug-a-lug onslaught continues with “NOB.NOD.NOI” and “Specimen” (the only 4:20 length track). Constant breaks, heavy bass, melodic riffs and minimal vocals. Who wants to concentrate on vocals anyway?

Wrawh: Gus Full Pipe

Metal! Satan! Full pipes! Wrawh. Here’s a track for Torey in case he’s never heard it. The originators of “black metal” and one of the most evil bands of all time. You can’t fuck with Venom!

Venom “In League With Satan”

I remember the first time I heard this album when I was 15 at the skatepark. As I was skating the bowl this song came on and I got goose bumps. Soon I had a friend make me a cassette mixtape of Venom’s album Welcome to Hell. Such an influencial album and since I slept on my Tuesday Teardown post, this’ll do!

Aaron’s Milani Road

Reportage

Aaron’s Milani Road

Steel road bikes will never die. They can be taken off road, ridden in all conditions, dropped, wrecked and anything else life will toss at you. Aaron Edge is the art director for Southern Lord and as a recent Seattle to Los Angeles transplant, his Milani road bike has become his staple transportation. He took this bike off road for the first time last week and we were there together, sweating it out together.

The other morning before getting to drone out at the Southern Lord offices, I took some photos of this Beautiful Bicycle.

Boss the Race

Alex has been bugging the shit out of me to post this video over the past few days but I’ve learned one thing when dealing with jocks and meat heads: you can’t give them instant satisfaction or they get fat! Just kidding Alex. These guys will eat you alive. They don’t care about bombing hills or cutting traffic (or pace lines for that matter), all they want to do is win.

Watch as the Dick Lane Velodrome gets eaten alive during the Keirin!

Round two is below!

Return of the Viking

It’s been a while. Hell, I don’t think I’ve ever put out a solo web edit of me riding fixed freestyle. Over the last two months, I’ve been collecting a few clips of riding in Austin with the Sweathogs. We’ve had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy!

Equipment:

Thanks to Leo, AJ and Puckett for filming!

Prolly is Not Probably’s Top 10 Metal Albums of 2010

There’s one facet of this blog you either love or hate: metal reviews. I’m not even going to front, doing metal reviews on the Mishka Bloglin is one of my favorite jobs. It really makes me search vigorously through the internet for new bands and reach out to up and comers who are yearning for exposure. 2009’s Doom and Metal Top 10 lists were well-received so I decided to group all metal genres into one killer fucking top 10 list!
