The Radavist’s 2014 Year in Review
This year was a whirlwind. I think I traveled somewhere around 220 days, jumping the pond a few times and yes, spending lots of time in California. But what was the pinnacle of the year was the rebrand from PiNP to the Radavist. The pinnacle because it meant more contributors, more photos and ultimately, more, good content.
Without the contributors to this site, it wouldn’t have been such a successful year. Those guys really killed it.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s start from Day 01…

Affinity Cycles is Back with New Branding
Introducing the New Affinity Cycles branding, website and frame colors. Brooklyn’s Affinity Cycles has been gearing up for a bit of a relaunch, in between their riders winning the Red Hook Crit women’s field, various alleycats and even competing in the 6 Days.
To start things off officially, Affinity announces three new frame colors and pre-orders: McQueen Green Kissena, Lollipop Purple Lo Pro and the Asphalt Metropolitan. All the frames now have hand painted graphics and their Kissena is featuring an all new carbon fork with aluminum steerer. Each can be pre-ordered as a frameset, or various build specs, ranging from $1,100 up to $4,400 for ENVE.
Check out Affinity’s new website as well, with a side-scrolling gallery of images, representing the brand’s ideology that a street bike can also be a race bike.

Bikestock Presents “Frenk”
Here’s a video from Crihs:
“Francesco Martucci is a cyclist from Italy who has been coming to the Red Hook Crit for the past 4 years. Every year Martucci comes to Red Hook with the expectation of winning the race and every year he has fallen short. He came very close in Milano No. 3. Late in the race coming into the final turn before the finish with a few laps to go, he slid out. We follow Martucci through his preparation for Red Hook No. 7 in Brooklyn.
In Milano No. 3 he crashed on the first lap. Got back up and later attacked off the front. Rainier from Mash bridged up to him with only a few laps to go and they held a gap over the peloton. The peloton caught them finally with less than 2 laps to go. He still finished 4th that year.”
Best of luck to everyone racing the Red Hook Crit Milano!

Cinelli Winged Store: Neil Bezdek Rider Cap
Man, it’s a Red Hook Crit morning. Here’s a video showcasing Neil Bezdek and his Rider Cap:
“Neil Bezdek is a bike racer, advocate, commuter, and writer based in New York City. Neil grew up mountain biking on singletrack outside of Denver, Colorado before falling in love with road cycling while attending college in scenic Santa Barbara, California.
After a year-long stint as a bike messenger in New York City, Neil took up road racing and competed professionally for three seasons. Now pursuing a “grown up” career in NYC’s Department of Transportation’s Bike Share Program, Neil still finds time to moonlight as a semi-professional at races across the US while also contributing regularly to Bicycling magazine.
Neil is a four-time winner of the Red Hook Criterium, which we considers his all-time favorite cycling event.”
Pick up a cap at the Cinelli Winged Store.

Trackside ’85 at the Berlin Six Day Race – Staffan Jofjell
Trackside ’85 at the Berlin Six Day Race – Staffan Jofjell
Words by Staffan Weigel, photos by Staffan Jofjell
Although it’s far from the spartan life of East Berlin, living in the west part of town is not always easy. The instability in world politics is constantly reminding the citizens of how vulnerable their city is. West Berliners stoically maintain a spirit of normality in their isolation. Their celebrations and manifestations of life before the wall serve as rituals that keep the absurdity of the surrounded city at bay…

Chris’ Spectrum Track Bike
Over the years, Tom Kellogg has produced some insane track bikes, most of which go for a steal on eBay, Craigslist and at swaps. These machines have tight clearances, little details, great paint and you’d be hard pressed to find any two of similar breed.
Chris bought this frame off the Boston Craigslist years back. He’s raced it at Red Hook Crit and while it spends a fair amount of time hanging on the wall, sometimes he takes it for a spin into work at Mellow Johnny’s, where he wrenches.
Details include: custom fillet stem, insane seat stay cluster with bi-lam lugs, clearances for a 19mm tire up front, that fork, the clincher Shamals (rear rim was a road Shamal, laced to track Shamal hub) and yeah, that paint!

No 22 Little Wing Build
Wilis recently built up a No 22 Little Wing track bike to race at Red Hook Crit. These bikes look even better in person. I’d highly encourage you check one out!

Mars Cycles Track
In my groggy state at this year’s NAHBS, I met Casey Sussman, the builder of Mars Cycles, a small frame builder out of Oakland. His bright magenta track bike caught my eye but in a world of mail-order “fixies”, I didn’t initially register the bike as a hand made frame.
Once Casey introduced himself, I quickly realized that was no mail-order, made in Taiwan bike. It’s a legitimate, hand made track bike. Clean fillets, racing geometry, non-nonsense details and that tapered head tube. Mars Cycles’ work, at this point, is focusing on crit-ready track bikes and Casey’s bike is a prime example.
Mars Cycles will have a few racers rolling these frames at this weekend’s Red Hook Crit in Brooklyn, so if you see them, make sure to wish them luck!
