WTF Bikexplorers: SJ Brooks Bikexplorers Scholarships

The WTF Bikexplorers have pulled together SJ Brooks Bikexplorers Scholarships for this year’s Summit. Here are the details:

We would like to recognize the WTF community & our allies who donated to the SJ Brooks Bikexplorers Scholarship last year. Thanks to these generous donations we are able to fund five individual scholarships to attend the 2019 WTF Bikexplorers Summit.

The second WTF Bikexplorers Summit will include four days of clinics, rides, discussions, campfires, and gear testing in Vernonia, OR. Our goal for this year’s Summit is to connect, celebrate and support the growing community of WTFnB cyclists who use their bicycles to explore the world in a way that feels empowering and healing. With these scholarships we hope to support those members of our community who encounter the structural inequalities that can get in the way of getting outside and exploring the world by bike.

We recognize that living the bike life isn’t as free and easy as the internet makes it seem. In an effort to make the Summit as diverse as the world we live we’re offering scholarships for FIVE folks who identify as women, trans, femme, and/or non-binary to attend this year’s summit.

Brooks All-Weather Carbon Cambium in 132mm and 145mm Widths and Carved

Earlier this week, we got a look at the new Brooks All-Weather Carbon Cambium and many readers expressed concerns that this model would come in various widths, as well as with a carved option. Well, fret no longer. Brooks now has the all-weather carbon cambiums in stock, with 132mm and 145mm widths, as well as carved options. These Carbon All Weather Cambium saddles weigh approx 280 grams, compared to the metal-railed Cambium’s weight of 405 grams and retail for $220.

I’ve got a mole over at Brooks in the EU and they just sent me teaser images of their new all-weather carbon Cambium saddles. These new saddles address the glaring issue with the standard all-weather Cambiums, the weight! With the all-weather design and the carbon body, the saddles will be substantially lighter. WTF Bikexplorers Honors SJ Brooks

Following up on yesterday’s post, the team at WTF Bikexplorers posted an update to their scholarship fund, which has now been re-named to honor SJ Brooks, the cyclist who was fatally attacked by a mountain lion in Washington this weekend.

“We would also like to take this moment to honor and celebrate the life of SJ Brooks by renaming the scholarships in their name to the SJ Brooks Bikexplorers Scholarship. SJ was the founder of the Seattle chapter of Friends on Bikes, a cycling group that fosters a community for women, trans, femme and non-binary people of color who love riding bikes. SJ was scheduled to speak about FOB and be a part of the QPOC panel at the WTF Bikexplorers Summit. This past weekend, SJ was fatally attacked while biking outside of Seattle. SJ’s tragic death is a huge loss to the cycling community. They were a positive light who worked tirelessly to create change.”

Brooks Introduces the All-Weather Cambium C15

For anyone who’s ridden in the rain on a cambium, you can attest to how fast the materials can wear. Brooks has addressed that problem, with the all-weather, and most importantly, all-black C15 All-Weather Cambium. These saddles will perform in freezing rain to blazing sunshine. The saddle top is made from a waterproof, weatherproof nylon cover and designed to perform flawlessly in all conditions. Additionally, the updated fiberglass reinforced back plate has loops for a saddle bag or other accessory. Looks like a win/win if you ask me!

Brooks Celebrates 150 Years with Dashing Bikes

There aren’t many cycling companies that have been around for 150 years. In fact, Brooks is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. It’s quite a feat. Especially when you consider that they’re not only still around, but they’re still making saddles in the UK. To celebrate, they’ve teamed up with a number of bicycle companies around the world to build limited edition bicycles, available to the public in small numbers, based on the copper rails. These “Dashing Bikes” are something else. One of which is Germany’s Canyon
