Witch House Wednesday: Salem – Sick

“Sick” off King Night

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, “great, another weekly music post”. That’s not my intent at all, I promise. In fact, I’m not even sure if there’s enough music in the Drag or Witch House genre to make it a weekly entry. I’m a relatively new fan of this new trend in music. Dark and bassy music’s always been my forte and when I came across Witch House via Mike from Mishka a few months back, I wanted to hate it. I thought it was just some white kids rehashing old DJ Screw (RIP) methods. While that’s partially true, it’s not 100% accurate.

Check out more below.

“Tair” off King Night

Cue a few recent articles on the genre: Frieze Mag‘s article written by DJ Rupture (!) and the NY Times‘ recent piece on DJ Screw and Witch House. I’m with My Pal the Crook on this one. How the hell did the Times not mention Mater Suspiria Vision,?!

You guys are losing it!

“Asia” off King Night

Anyway, on to Salem. Their recent album, King Night, ignited the scene and promised a long lifespan for the genre. Also known as Witch Chop, their approach is very much an homage to Screw’s legacy but they take it a step further, as evident with other music off King Night.

It’s highly addicting. I suggest you check it out!
