I don’t know what’s more impressive. Winter’s bicycles, or the names Eric comes up with for them. “Picholine” are olives originally from the south of France. The classic era French city bikes have always interested Eric from Winter Bicycles, so when a client requested a commuter, he looked to them for inspiration, while picking up a few modern details. Fenders, generator lamp, racks and other elegant elements adding to the beauty and functionality of utilitarian bicycles.
Then came the frame. The lugs are an old Prugnet set that Eric rebuilt and shaped. These classic lugs are uniting tubes that are modern, yet maintain a classic shape. The Picholine was build to be a daily, year round commuter. The emphasis was on a light and fun bike that was stable and could carry the clients daily load around town in all weather.
When Eric asked his client what sort of visual details she wanted, she said “I want a Winter” and cut him loose.
This bike features a mixed parts group with DA 11 shifters on Paul Thumbie mounts pushing an 11sp Ultegra gear set. No-nonsense functionality. Tried and true White Industries rear hub, cranks and bottom bracket bring the bling where its necessary. The 650b wheelset rolls on Pacenti tires and runs a SON Schmidt hub with an Edelux light. Stoppers are XT hydo units. The bike has Nitto swept bars and custom Winter stem and rear carrier.
