With Rapha Travel heading to OZ for the Tour Down Under, they contacted one of Australia’s finest framebuilders to create a commemorative road bike. This black, yellow and green Corretto just screams Baum, with Busyman bar tape and Rapha insignia, it’s bound to be someone’s dream bike.

A Fool’s Errand: The RGR in Boulder

When Jeremy Dunn called me and said Rapha was planning to hold a Gentlemen’s Race in Boulder, I was, plainly, stoked. I’ve always followed the coverage of the other races and hoped we’d have the chance to share our characters and terrain here in Boulder with everyone, too.
And… Here we go!
Let’s face it, commuting wear has come a long way in the past few years and Rapha always delivers…
This Thursday, House Industries is having an exhibition of their new Velo Font at the Rapha Cycle Club in New York City. I wish I could make it out and see this collection in person, it looks really great.

“Continuing the partnership in footwear with Giro, Rapha are launching our first cyclocross-specific shoe. Built on the EC90 carbon outsole used by Giro’s current range of MTB/Cross footwear, the upper of the shoe has been developed for the rigors of racing with a rubberized heel and toe-cap and aggressive outsole cleats for getting through the mud. Look, I didn’t want day two to be more Portland photos. I know this city is awesome and I have a lot of rad friends here but come on. I need some nature. Alas, yesterday was our last day in PDX, before we head out of town, along the Nestucca River to the PCH.
It’s been 12 years since I owned a vehicle and I was quickly reminded at the cost of maintenance. New tires? Yeah, expensive. Funny how you can rationalize $80 tires for your bike, but $200 tires for a car or truck? Dammit!
After running some errands, I swung by to see my friends at Rapha North America to see their expanded offices and drink all their coffee before heading out to do much of the same – try to meet as many friends as I could before we headed out of town in the morning…
There are very few experiences like riding a custom bicycle, but when it comes down to it, there are plenty of frames out there that are completely fitting for most people. These frames were designed to be raced, or just plain ridden, like many of the bikes on the market today. While they might not be custom-fit, they were fine-tuned for their intended use. In short: if the frame fits, shred the shit out of it.
Cole was looking for a new road frame last year and while it was tempting to go continue saving for a custom steel rig, he decided to keen an eye on eBay and Craigslist, in hopes that something, light, tight and Italian might pop up in his size. Low and behold, it did. A NOS Rossin crit frame from the early 90’s hit eBay one day and soon, it arrived in Austin. All for around $700.
He chose Campagnolo Athena 11, Mavic Open Pro rims, a classic 3TTT Pro Chrome Columbus stem, Deda bars, Zipp post, Fizik Antares VS saddle, Speedplay pedals and some reliable Conti rubber. The build is very tasteful and the lines of this classic race bike are seducing enough for even the seasoned carbon ‘pro-minded’ consumer to second guess their recent ‘upgrade’…

The NYC Women’s 100 Rapha Ride

This past Sunday morning, women all over the world took part in Rapha’s Women’s 100 ride. Every year this globally-coordinated event challenges female athletes of all skill types to ride 100km together as a group.
Wednesday, July 2nd, Emily Maye has a photo exhibition opening in London, at Beach. Roll through to check it out. I wish I could be there!
I know what would look great with that new black Giro Synthe helmet, the newest collection from Rapha. The Kings of Pain collection is easily the best capsule this year from the brand, with a redefined club jersey, a black cap, black essentials case and a bottle opener.

This morning, after no sleep and a long day of traveling, I landed at Heathrow with the sunrise. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was the sun, peeking through the neighbor’s window, hitting me in the face that kept me from getting an iota of sleep.
I hopped on the Express train and made my way to the hotel, before taking a stroll with the PEdAL ED team around the neighborhood.
Holding onto consciousness, in an almost sleepwalking state, we swung through a few shops, all of which I’d like to spend more time combing through the details and doing proper Shop Visits at, but in the interest of time, I’ll have to go with these random details.
Kinoko was amazing. One of the nicest shops I’ve been in and the Rapha Cycle Club was quite the experience… I’m here with Brooks England, for their Eroica event and our days are pretty packed, but I’ll do my best to document our journey.

“Back in April of last year, RAPHA commissioned us to document the second ride of the European Rapha Continental “Hidden Europe – HOLLAND”. Our initial thought was: Where is the “hidden” in Holland? But after Frank from the Pristine bike shop in Amsterdam presented the route and we took some time to do some research on the ride, our doubts soon transformed into curiosity. Another unstable factor was the weather, which after dealing with a long winter that year, spring was far away and that meant: The crappier the conditions to film, the more epic the footage…”
