I know it’s easy to geek out about ever piece of tech apparel brands like Mission Workshop develop and eventually put to market. I say “eventually” because sometimes it takes a while to make sure it’s ready. Take this Softshell Faroe Pullover for example. I’ve been wearing one since January and it’s safe to say it’s almost all I wear when I’m riding in an environment that demands it. That ranges from sunny days in the New Zealand mountains, where I want to keep the sun off my arms and neck, or a misty mountain hop in the Angeles Crest. Even here in Austin, with our hit-or-miss rainy spring weather.

This one garment has been put through the ringer and it’s still kicking. It’s lightweight (220g) and is constructed using Swiss-made Schoeller®-Dryskin fabric with Nanosphere® water repellent treatment. Schoeller is like the titanium of the fabric industry. What can’t it do? Camping, mountain biking, road cycling, touring, bike packing, its applications are endless.

After all the requests, I’ve decided to open up the Radavist Discharged Kit for pre-order tomorrow. It’ll run for only a week and should be delivered by the beginning of July. You’ll be able to order bibs, arm warmers and the jersey all separately, or all together. Hopefully this quells everyone’s need for an all-black kit and as always, thanks for the support.

A 2015 NAHBS favorite has finally landed online. The No 22 Bicycles Reactor road bike caught my attention this year at the show and still to this day makes me feel all adulterated with lust. Clean, minimal lines, custom hardware and a stance unmatched in the current production frame world. That’s my opinion anyway… Form your own opinion at No 22 and see more photos below.

Seagull Bags took a short hiatus to figure things out and move the brand in a few new directions, resulting in two new bag models. One of which is a do-all backpack, stepping away from Seagull’s previous silhouettes of messenger style backpacks. The Nightshift V2 was designed with exploration in mind. Or just standard day-to-day use. Cargo straps make it easy to bring a few extra items along and interior pockets keep things organized. Also new to the lineup is the Trail Buddy hip pack (or shred pack as I like to call them). Carry your tools, snacks, camera, one-hitter or even a burrito in it and hit the trail without worrying about a hydro pack.

A lot of people have asked for this kit to be restocked and I’m considering opening a pre-order to ensure everyone’s particularities can be addressed. Our friends at Ringtail have finally launched their new web shop, which is stocked with their Breeze Breaker jacket, Breezer vest, Don Cherry cap and Pocket Trumpet cap. All of these products are made in the Los Angeles area, with details that are inspired by many of the rides you’ve read about on this site. While it might be a small initial launch, Ringtail is aspiring to become a great American-made cycling apparel brand.

I’m a one-pair-of-jeans kinda guy. I usually wear them until they blow out, then get them repaired, all the while never washing them. I’ll ride mountain bikes in them, travel extensively, wear them on photoshoots, commute in them, wear them every single day and eventually they’ll age and develop a great finish. Nothing about my normal jeans inhibits me from riding a bike. That’s because normal jeans are perfectly ok to get sweaty in, take a digger in or get soaking wet from rain. The problem is durability. You need great denim that will last, not cheap, thin crap. My preferred denim is Cone Mills and my preferred jeans are made by Tellason, especially their black denim.

One of my favorite stories from Norse Mythology relates to nature’s impact on man. Scandanavian warriors would often wear the skin of a bear or a wolf before entering battle, resulting in the spirit of the animal possessing them in battle. As Odin’s personal army the Berserkir were known for ferocity as well as loyalty as they fought for the pack leader. In fact the Old Norse word berserkir, literally translates to “bear-shirt” and was soon called “going berserk.”

Venturing into the woods, be it during an expedition, or just an everyday ride, we too can find ourselves transformed. Every time we push ourselves on the bike, or subsequently find ourselves pushed off the bike, we grow – #RubberSideUp. This introspective experience not only shapes us as riders, but it continues to strengthen our relationship with nature. If anything deserves respect, it’s the woods.

I tend to get giddy about projects, especially those which were born in the USA, or at least in this case resurrected. Silca’s a company with its roots deeply embedded in cycling history. For over 100 years, this company has been a part of inflation technology (yes, I just said that). After the name was purchased and relocated to the USA, things have been changing rapidly. For the better.

That $400 floor pump caused a bit of a ruckus, as did the $40 air chucks yet for some reason the thought of a $165 frame pump doesn’t seem like a huge leap. Especially when you consider the detailing and that a made overseas Topeak or the like is still $50. The Impero Ultimate has been reborn. It’s a beast of metal, with no plastic parts and it’s machined in the USA. Best of all, it comes in BLACK!
