Day 4. In which our noble riders visit Roubion and the Maritime Alps which, roughly translated, means Sea of Mountians. In this segment the drone camera operator has really hit his stride with some fantastic long follow shots that really really really make me want to get over to France and ride.

Riders have reached the midway point for this year’s Tran Provence and the stage 3 took them up a long hike-a-bike above treeline. My guess is that this was done not just for the benefit of the riders, because the images coming back from this days stage are stunning. Wind swept passes and people on their bikes hauling assses. Epic.

Let’s get this show on the road. The 2014 Trans Provence is on!

Nice is the home base for French cycling apparel company Café du Cycliste. They know the roads, climbs and descents like the back of their well worn in cycling mits. The surrounding Alpes Maritimes region offers some of the best riding in France, and is accessible by numerous scenic roads.

Mavic really captures the beauty of the Alps in this web miniseries called “Les Alpes – A non-stop Journey from Évian-les-Bains to Nice”. I’d love to ride the French Alps on the road bike but I gotta say, the trails look like even more fun. Here’s part one and check out part two below.

Cyclist Mike Cotty is about to embark on a personal journey. He’s planning on riding 666 kilometers of the French Alps from Evian Les Bains to Nice. In doing so, he must traverse 17 mountain passes. Yes, those passes: Télégraphe, Col de la Colombière, Galibier, Madeleine, Glandon, Croix de Fer, Vars, Izoard, Bonette and Madone. In doing so, he’ll have an elevation gain of 16,000 metres.

Yikes. But hey, that’s pretty fuckin’ metal. Talk about the Mountains of Madness…
