Post-Vacation FGFS Video Dump
I never, ever “take time off”, so apologies for the lack of updates but sometimes, even I need a break. Luckily, I kept tabs on what was going on the best I could, so I’m dumping a bunch of FGFS videos in this post, starting with Sol’s Ninjacats London edit for BB17 and Spike.

Rick Anderson: Tom LaMarche 360
I don’t think this photo could get any more dialed, just like Tom’s legit as hell 360 from the Chicago video. Rick, he’s perfectly centered on that wall. Well done man!

Two Videos to Hold You Over
Sorry about the lack of updates guys. It’s been a blast here in Bali and I didn’t mean to leave you hanging but I needed some away time. To hold you over until the torrent of updates roll through, check out these two videos from Chicago. Tom LaMarche is a fucking beast. That last clip is big. I’m so proud of you man. Very inspiring.

2012 Fixed Fest!
In the time I have been running this blog, I have never been to an event like Fixed Fest in Jakarta. It’s not just the scale of the event, it’s the overall execution. Each event started on time and went smoothly, as planned. But that’s how it has to be with 100’s of people waiting for their chance to compete. The day began bright and early, 7am to be exact, with an alleycat. The out of towners would normally be screwed racing in a city like Jakarta but as with all foreign alleycats, they stuck to the locals and snaked their way through the crowded streets.
Then, there was the mini-races, the bunny hop contest, track stand, freestyle, polo and countless other side events. As the day went on, more and more people showed up and it didn’t dwindle until after the awards ceremony. Out of all the foreigners, it was Tyler Johnson who surprised everyone with a meter-high bunnyhop, a solid run in the freestyle and the best time in the mini-race, beating the competition by over 10 seconds. MASH SF repped hard as well, bringing in 5 medals and Sean Martin even won the alleycat (was that his first?).
Bottom line is, Fixed Fest was a blast. I have never signed so many autographs on bags, hats, shirts, jerseys, rims, bikes and anything else the attendees could get their hands on. I met some incredible people, who did nothing but smile and welcomed me to their city. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun and today we leave for a 4-day trip to Bali for some much-needed relaxation.
I would like to thank Rocket Company, Woof, and everyone who made this possible. Fixed Fest was the best event I’ve ever been to!

Obscura: Kevin Sparrow Discusses the Fuji X-Pro1 and Cycling
Since this website is a one-man show 99.99% of the time, I like to make the guest appearances extra special. I’ve known Kevin Sparrow for some time now. I wouldn’t say we go way back, but in internet time, we’ve been around, doing relatively the same kind of work for a few years. Kevin’s someone I look up to, not only as a photographer, but as a person and a passionate artist. When he and I spoke a few months back about photography, he mentioned he was thinking of ditching his Canon 7D for the Fuji X-Pro1.

Can’t Fool the Youth FGFS Video Magazine
I can say, without a doubt that I’ve seen every fixed freestyle DVD out there and every time, they just get better. When Zane from Chop Em Down Films first emailed me, expressing an interest to come to Texas with a handful of riders to film for a new video magazine, I was stoked! Over the past few months, I’ve been hearing about him traveling to film with other talent. From Tokyo, to SF, Phoenix, Temecula, Long Beach and Los Angeles, Zane has been there, catching clips for Can’t Fool the Youth Volume 01.
With the premieres still unfolding around the globe, I don’t want to give too much away but I will say this: Can’t Fool the Youth is the most comprehensive fixed freestyle project I’ve seen. It captures all of the talent and even brings some new faces some much-needed exposure. It captures the daily lives of riders and maintains that “feel good” vibe that I enjoy so much. What Zane has pulled together in the first volume only has me more stoked for the second and the third and…
