2012 Cross Vegas

Reportage

2012 Cross Vegas

Cross Vegas. One night during Interbike where the industry and UCI come together for a night of boozin’ and racin’. This year’s heats were bigger, faster and more beer’er than ever. How about less talk, more photos?

If you’ve been following this blog for the past 6 years, you’ve seen me mention Razzle camouflage multiple times and if there is one cross team that could pull off a Razzle-inspired skinsuit during cross season, it’d have to be Geekhouse. Of course it takes an exceptional designer to pull it off, precedents and all. That’s why Marty enlisted Adria Klora to tackle the team kits this year, who also did the Golden Saddle Cyclery kits. ENDO‘s getting to produce some rad stuff this year!

All this Geekhouse razzle is coming to a race near you, just try to not stare directly into them or you’ll crash into a tree.

Bishop Bikes: Boosters and Mini V’s

These are the types of posts I love seeing from Chris Bishop. I like to think of Chris’ work as detailed, with a purpose. While I’ve got nothing against builders who file down pedal cages and machine their own tail lamps, I really appreciate little nuances that make a bike function better, while adding a little aesthetic pulse of energy.

Chris cites Aaron Hayes from the late Courage Cycles as a precedent for this (something I wish the new jack builders would do – cite your sources), as an effort to stiffen up cantis and mini v’s. He even noticed an increase in stiffness while brazing this bridge booster in place.

See the mini v’s installed below.

Come to Cross Vegas and Make Money

Come to Cross Vegas and Make Money

That’s how some people do it. My photos from last night’s Cross Vegas came out so rad. But that’s mostly due to Ty and his antics. Dude was blasting the run up higher and longer than anyone else. So rad!

Interbike 2012: Cinelli

Reportage

Interbike 2012: Cinelli

Year after year, photographing Interbike goes from being an overwhelming and daunting task to me just knowing what people want to see. That and after I get over shooting in the horrible lighting, the yearly tradeshow’s bounty of Beautiful Bicycles just comes easy. This year, Cinelli packed a few punches, starting with the new single speed CX frame, designed by MASH. But the main surprise was the custom carbon Laser road. Wow.

Beautiful Bicycle: The Cicli Devotion Team Cross Bike by Seth Rosko

Photos by Alan Tansey

When two local brands come together for the good of grassroots racin’, It’s a wonderful thing. Take this project for example. Cicli Devotion and Seth Rosko. Two familiar names here on the site and two of my good friends in Brooklyn. While the official framebuilder sponsor is Rick Jones, Matthew had already commissioned Seth to build his and the outcome is damn classy. Nice looking Horse Cycles paint too! Many thanks to Alan for the photos and Matthew for sending these over. Check out more below!

Milwaukee Bicycle Co: OX Platinum Disk Cyclocross Pre-Order

Milwaukee’s OX Platinum cross frame is now up on their site for pre-order. These frames are made from US tubing in the USA by Waterford and are only $660. No one can complain at that price, which comes in around most Taiwanese tigged frames. And you can even customize the paint. Now that’s a steal for steel. Head to Milwaukee Bicycle Co for pre-ordering information. For those interested in a carbon fork, the Whisky Parts Co Number 7 fork will do the trick.

Garrett Chow’s Custom Specialized Carbon Crux CX by Mike Martin

Mike Martin is a very busy guy. When he’s not at the Mash SF storefront, he’s planning an event, working on his clothing line Martin or out shooting video. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for his other passion: photography. It’s not everyday that you see photos from Mike, so when he showcases inspirational photos like these, I had to reach out to him.

Garrett Chow’s work that comes out of his studio in the Specialized facilities is always far from ordinary and his new Custom Specialized Carbon Crux CX is a perfect example of his craftsmanship. Many thanks to Mike for the high res photos. Check them out below!

Matt’s Signal Cross

Reportage

Matt’s Signal Cross

I’ve long been a fan of Signal Cycles‘ work and yet I still can’t describe it without saying “Portland” somewhere. Truth is, their bikes aren’t very Portland, nor are they extremely classic, they’re just Signal Cycles. Bright colors, impeccible craftsmanship and very reflective of their clients. Maybe that’s it. Every Signal owner I’ve met, matches their bikes, right down to the colors. Isn’t that what a custom bike is all about? Take Matt’s cross bike for example…
