I woke up a bit late this morning and opened Flickr to find this beaut staring me down. You can’t beat the colors in Provia 100F, especially in the Portland sunlight. Loving the film burn here and that machine!

Today I’m going to play a bit of catch up. I’ll be resuming NAHBS coverage, sparingly, while trying to transition back to normal. We’ll start with the newest from Chrome:
“Our man Card’s flew out to NY last summer to “Link Up” (no pun intended) with the rest of the Familia. He wanted to get the entire fam together and, collaboratively the team came up with this short.

Before this blog takes a nose dive into NAHBS, I wanted to share this portrait of Machew that Brenton Salo took on a sunny afternoon in Portland. Loving the tones here.

Between Damian and Brenton, I feel like I know the bike messengers in Portland. I’m loving the latest portrait of Sharky waiting on a delivery.

Japanese saddle manufacturer Kashimax is known for their over-the-top cover designs but this one’s a whole different kind of bird. Check out more photos at Cyclehawk!

YNOT introduces a new bag to their Pro Series line, the Mongoose:
“The MONGOOSE is part of the YNOT Pro-Series cycling bag line. It has all the features of our basic single-strap messenger bags but with additional pockets and an X-strap to spread the load. This bag is made to work hard, with reinforced corners and increased carrying capacity. The back pad acts as an additional pocket and can be removed to be washed. The separated floating liner protects your goods and keeps them dry, while the zippered details pocket keeps your smaller goods organized and secure.”
I’ve been spending the past few days going through my “Year in Review” content and I stumbled upon these photos from the 2012 Philly Bike Expo that never made it up on the site. If you’ve spent any amount of time in Philly on your bike, chances are you’ve seen this bike zipping around town. Jorge’s Bilenky track has seen plenty of street time in its day. Prior to Jorge owning it, this green machine was owned by Roland at REload. Made by Bilenky in Philly, complete with S&S couplers, this is the ideal travel bike. I even hear there’s an S&S REload bag to match. More people need to make S&S bags!
Boda Boda‘s return is much welcomed and this new series entitled NY1:01 is very promising. NYC offers some of the best urban riding in the world. No other city compares and videos like this make me miss my old home and homies. I used to ride this stretch of road every day. Keep these coming man!
Coincidentally, Chris is on his way back to Austin tomorrow!

Damian’s photos of Portland bike messengers are always great. Take this photo of Sharkey’s hand-scrawled manifest from earlier this year. So good!
I’ve really come to enjoy Damian’s daily photo upload. Follow his Tumblr, if you don’t already.
It’s been a while since I posted anything from W-Base but I’m stoked to see this video featuring Austin Horse!
The 2013 Cycle Messenger World Championship is coming! This year the city of Lausanne, Switzerland will be hosting. Check out more information here! I really wish I could make it out this year.
I am honored to have a bike made by this man. When you buy a Bishop, you not only get a frame, you get a world’s experience (literally) in bicycle racing, collecting and just good old fashioned work ethic. Chris began on a bike like many of us did, on a BMX, pedaling around the neighborhood. Then he began racing, until the bike messenger life caught him in the late 90’s. After traveling to race the CMWCs, he returned to the States where he enrolled in frame building classes under Steve Garn of Brew’s watchful eye.
Now Bishop Bikes is a world-renown name in frame building. With a new web site on the way, Chris uploaded some photos of his life in bikes over on his Flickr. I highly recommend you take a look!
J Milligan is an author who wrote a novel about a bike messenger. The title is Eggman and this month, proceeds from the novel sales will go to help out in Hurricane Sandy relief. Pick up the eBook here, at the Eggman site. Digging the Chris Piascik cover!
Here’s that full-length web video from Dosnoventa‘s time in NYC. Don’t forget to check out a few previous photosets below if you haven’t already!

Wiping your bike down after every ride and refusing to lock it up may keep it in pristine condition but will it have character? Or a soul? Prolly not. Well used components and frames seem to sprout a personality with the patina from daily use and Damian Riehl has captured that with a few photos. This one in particular is my favorite, a 150mm shot (with an extension tube) from his Hasselblad of a Zipp hub.
